@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

If you would get back with info once you're 100% certain whether or not they've sorted this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

While I'd like to give it a try, there's no way I'm going to go through that signup process, the setup fee, and potentially have a constant fight with billing.

I'll certainly bear it in mind to post when I'm certain that either they're correct in charging the way they have or they've implemented changes to correct problems on data capturing & subsequent billing.

I agree with you 100% that we shouldn't need to 'fight' for thing to work correctly, and if they offer a product, it should work perfectly from the start. However, apart from this problem which has crept into the system recently since they changed over to a new one, everything else works great - getting full line speed on both Capped & Uncapped, and the Uncapped price I don't think any other company comes close to.

Also, there seem to have been lots of complaints about uncapped elsewhere during the day or at certain times of the day, so for a fraction of the price, for usage between 6pm - 6am & then on the weekends ... well, I won't be cancelling any time soon.

I noticed with their new system. I selected the limit to 0 additional gigs. Once I reach my 1GB free gig that comes with the gig4gig package I get actually capped and end up going to the @lantic landing page which tells me I'm capped. The account automatically opens up @ 6pm at night so looks like its actually working well. Not sure if data is getting leaked into blended usage but from my side it looks to be working well and still going full speed ahead. :)

Thanks for the feedback & useful info. provided.

What follows are comments/queries (more for someone like yourself who has an existing capped/uncapped a/c at @lantic), for me to compare against, if possible.

I can report that in the main summary of Data Used (section) it still shows 0.00MB since using quite a few hundred MB's since after 6pm last night (which is a good sign).

If you click on ''View Account'' and it shows your "Recent Session History" (which updates after about 20 minutes), it indicates what's been used since the system was reset, from the 1st of the month (every time you log on/off unless they're your only ISP and your modem's on the whole time).

What I find a bit disconcerting, is that is doesn't differentiate anywhere in that section between capped or uncapped. I suppose one must trust in the fact that the summary is correct, and that billing will remain at the R59.

@Cavedog, can you (or anyone else) confirm this to be correct ?
I don't have previous Uncapped with them to compare against, as I've just signed up.

What I'd also like to draw more attention to regarding CAPPED, is if you click on ''Billing Details'', then ''View Next Bill'', you might see a provisional charge for :

1GB (25/Jan/2013-1/Feb/2013) charged at R15.

@cavedog (and again, anyone else), can you log on and confirm if this is true on your a/c ?

If you don't have that charge, it would mean that since you've set your limit to ZERO on Capped, and I've up to now had a value > than 1, there's probably an issue with their billing on this new system of theirs.

I received a similar charge last month on my invoice, and am waiting for them to do a recon. back to SAIX's data used, before I presume they'll credit me.

Would also like to know (even though this thread is to do with UNcappped), if anyone else with a Gig4Gig a/c has received such a charge - last month an extra (possible) Gig was charged for the period (22/Dec/2012 - 1/Jan/2013).

Have now changed my additional cap to ZERO, but problem is I may want to use extra over and above the 1GB free, so will have to reconsider - granted, they need to sort out the billing 100% if there is one, owing to the split charges.

Would appreciate any relevant feedback.

Yes they do not show which data is the capped portion and which is uncapped. It is confusing and you have to assume that it is correct.

As for the gig4gig charge they are not charging me. Here is a screenshot of my "view next bill"

You can see the price is 0.00 for the gig4gig. :)

@cavedog -
Thanks so much; at least I have something to compare against, so can take it another step further with @lantic.

@Browser -
There seems to be at least one a/c working 100% (cavedog's) - that has been set to ZERO additional Gig's over & above the 1GB free. It's possible that for a/c's set to receive additional Gig's, there is an additional charge creeping in OR I have in fact used extra data. They cannot yet prove it either way - what I'm to question with them now is why my a/c EVERY MONTH has split charges within the same billing cycle.

I'd think that if you're keen to get the Gig4Gig & Uncapped, then when you first log onto your profile https://portal.lantic.net/atlantic/portal/login/login.jsp , immediately set the additional GB part to ZERO, and you'll possibly/probably have no issues. You can still use up to 1GB during normal hours, free.

Otherwise, I still hope to post my findings once finalised .. whenever that may be ?

EDIT: Having now logged back onto my a/c, the provisional R15 charge & narration for next month's inv. has disappeared ! Was there only last night, so things might be happening behind the scenes. Hasn't (yet) been replaced by a Gig4Gig charged out at NIL, but that may still take place.

I have not tested the additional gigs setting in dept yet but tweaking it did not give me a higher bill unless I used more than 1GB. Tht said I do not know for certain whether that usage was all suppose to be on the uncapped or capped portion and just assumed they are billing it correctly....

To @lantic's credit, I've received a mail advising a credit of the 1GB charged for has been passed.

I don't know if the technical aspect of the problem's been sorted out yet (if there is in fact one?), but they are very quick to rectify a potentially problematic situation - so, my advice to anyone who might be 'sitting on the fence' regarding signing-up, is to do so for reasons explained in previous posts (pricing/quality of service), and that they also sort out client queries quickly.

I sent in an application form at 4:30pm and by 5pm I was up and running, awesome service...

So basically after about of year I still have the account. Not using it as much cause I have telkom uncapped but its still a awesome account to have and for just R59 I see no reason why I should cancel it. Still the best account out there for very fast internet joy over weekends or in the evenings.

Its just as fast as it was when it was launched about a year ago and the product is still on offer. Epic

Yip. Been using it since January as my primary account. Best value for money

When I read about WA and their move to IS and people trying to understand the star systems, etc I just think how hassle free this account is. Totally agree re value for money

Anyone having hassles with news servers? I am using Astraweb and overnight was able to download at full speed; this morning everything seems to have stopped.

Browsing, youtube, streaming radio all working perfectly

Nope full 4Mbps speed using http://powernews.nl/ as my usenet provider. Torrents are flying too. Must be astraweb related or @tlantic that is having some problem with astraweb.

Thanks Cavedog. Just switched to my WA capped account and nothing happening either. Maybe it is something to do with SABnzbd??

Could be....

As you can see flying with @lantic.

Maybe you should try alt.binz or http://www.binreader.com/

binreader is a very small usenet client but works nice. alt.binz works best for me maybe cause I'm used to it but just try it and if it works then its sabnzbd

So I signed up earlier this week and so far so good. I'm ditching Afrihost - I'm hardly at home during the day and I don't mind paying @lantic for a few gigs for when I use my phone in the morning. The most impressive part is that I actually get nearly full utilisation of my 10mb line with this (whereas I never did on Afrihost) - downloading at 850KB/s right now - if this holds out throughout the month I'll be seriously impressed.

Well be prepared to be impressed cause I tried to abuse it and it just took it. Usage is no problem and no limit. They say its shaped but feels more like a unshaped account.

This is BY FAR the BEST after hours uncapped since it launched 1 year ago. :)

A few months down the line, and I am still totally happy. I would say this is one of those best kept "secrets" around.

Oronte, I too have a 10 meg line and it runs pretty much full steam whenever I am downloading. Very impressive. Enjoy the account

Im debating switching from my very new (7 Day Old) Afrihost Account to this....

And look at the site:

"Unshaped After Hours" - Which is the only time this account can be used haha

Hence it is called a " Bolt on" product.
Read the the OP if you did not read it that context.
