@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

I think we need to keep this best kept secret, a secret :)

I feel the same way as Cavedog and as long as this deal keeps going with such great results, I will be one really happy camper. I have only been using it for a short period of time, but to have 8 megs for 12 hours during the week and full weekends is just totally great. I wonder how they do it?

They business clients pay for the vox bonded dsl solutions (fishbone) etc services, but after hours those bonded lines does not seems to work that hard , so they can probably sell that bandwidth for next to nothing. ( i think its something in that line)

Thanks - that would make sense. I did see when I did a speedtest it said something about business.

Anyway it seems to be a win win then.

Yes even if they increase the price now I won't be so shocked cause to be honest its the best uncapped afterhours product in SA in for its price. Other ISP's that costs so much more can't even compare to @lantic/Vox uncapped after hours....

Now now, let's not give them any ideas :)

Hey guys!

Happy New Years to everyone!

I'm glad to hear that everyone is loving this product, and a big thanks to those who brought up issues in the beginning of the launch of the product, you've helped ensure that the product works as perfectly as it can!

Hi Chris

I must congratulate you guys on this wonderful product that you offering. I am yet to test it as i am waiting for my activation. I think you guys are going to grow so fast. I have raised this a year or 2 back when i suggested the ISP's should something similar to what you guys are doing. I just hope you guys can sustain this.

Just received my login details today. will test it today when i get home.

will give feedback

I've been very temped by this since its launch but heard about the billing problems it had with allocating bandwidth between capped and uncapped when it switched over in the evening.

Can anyone say if this has been addressed and resolved? Would like to give it a try but not interested as long as there are issues like that.

So I just got ADSL installed on wednesday, wanting to go with @lantic gig4gig + bolton uncapped for streaming media after hours.

So far the signup process sucks.
Made a request on their site yesterday morning. No response. Tried again with a different branch (sandton). Got an email this morning with the forms. No instructions or requests or anything, just here is the forms.

The website doesn't actually say anything about the manual signup process. In fact there's a nice big green button saying "Order Now". I'm pretty damn sure they can take the "Now" bit out of there.

So anyway, I guess I have some reading to do this weekend. Since I don't have any instructions I actually have no clue what I'm supposed to actually do with these forms. Presumably print out and fill in then make a trip to the branch with certified copy of ID and proof of address (which I don't actually have because everything is digital these days).

I logged into my old webafrica account, last used 2009 and still have 210mb of local only prepaid sitting there unused. It's very tempting to just add on 4mb uncapped in the control panel there...

I've had their Capped for probably a year now.

As it so happens, I ordered their Uncapped earlier on today - at about 18h10 this evening, I logged on & so far have downloaded a podcast of about 15MB. I checked in the Data Usage panel, and so far all seems fine. It registerd my login at that time & correctly, not showing anything Down or Uploaded since then.

I'm reluctant to go ahead blindly, although I've read on this thread that it was sorted out 100% - that is, the split between Capped & Uncapped, and so far, it seems to be working.

By the end of the weekend, I can hopefully report back more on this - there should be others who've had the Uncapped longer, and can give you more info at this stage if they see your query.

However, I've found since they've move over to the new data/billing system, that WITHIN Capped only, it may not be 100%.
I've queried this with them, and there's been a delay in getting back to me on that, so I'm
convinced they can't sort that aspect of it out, yet.

At most, I think the system might be registering an extra 1GB @ R15, so if you can live with that, the rest should be ok until that can be sorted out.

@rorzOr -
My suggestion to you would be to just sign-up for the Gig4Gig at this stage. Once you have that approved & setup, they should accept an e-mail request to add the Bolt-on. If you can get a contact person in the branch you're dealing with, that's a better idea. (to address mails to a specific person).

If you can either fax or e-mail the application form/s through with certified ID & FICA doc. you shouldn't need to go in to a branch for any of this - I didn't.

They are usually good at replying to queries, so maybe send a mail of anything you want clarified (in the meantime) to : [email protected]

If you would get back with info once you're 100% certain whether or not they've sorted this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Though about an extra 1GB @ R15, it might not sound high but that is R15 clients should not be paying and it adds up making a lot they shouldn't be. It also adds up on the client side, for example if bandwidth usage is on a schedule and their system rips people off by 1GB @ R15 per week-day that adds up to R300+ per month (double if that 1GB happens each time it switches between uncapped and capped), that end price doesn't compare well with uncapped accounts without any such billing problems that don't have setup fees or an unfriendly signup process.

Considering the price of other uncapped accounts there is no price worth paying if it means having to constantly fight a flawed billing system that's overcharging. Also one of the nice things about uncapped accounts is there being no surprises when it comes to the cost.

While I'd like to give it a try, there's no way I'm going to go through that signup process, the setup fee, and potentially have a constant fight with billing.

I noticed with their new system. I selected the limit to 0 additional gigs. Once I reach my 1GB free gig that comes with the gig4gig package I get actually capped and end up going to the @lantic landing page which tells me I'm capped. The account automatically opens up @ 6pm at night so looks like its actually working well. Not sure if data is getting leaked into blended usage but from my side it looks to be working well and still going full speed ahead. :)
