@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

Hi Everyone,

Just to find out does this "Bolt on" service work with a 10mbps line?

Are users still experiencing the issue where after 6pm it still shows on the Package data?

I have a 10 mbps line and this works a charm. I only use this account in the designated times and have had no issues with billing so therefore am assuming all is good with data allocation.

Hope this answers your question :)

Hi Fultonton17,

Thank it does.

Look like i will be making changes :) Do you download a lot by any chance?

Hence it is called a " Bolt on" product.
Read the the OP if you did not read it that context.

Haha ya, i was referring to the previous post about they say its shaped but its actually unshaped

I do some big batches from time to time. This weekend I would have done 60+ gigs which is the most I have done in one go. It was generally hassle free and speeds will be 850 kBs+ all the time. Great product for this

I'm considering getting this with the gig4gig account. No one uses internet during the weekday at our place so this is perfect. Still recommended?

All things considering I think I am going to go this route if and or when Telkom finally decides to install my telephone and ADSL line at my new premises.

4-10 Meg line + Local Gig 4 Gig + Bolt on uncapped seems nice :P

PS Lets say at a later stage, I decide to get a secondary account, lets say a little 1 meg uncapped from afrihost, is there a DD-WRT script that can automatically switch between the accounts to fully take advantage of the uncapped?

I know with mikrotik router can you , but i was to lazy to set it up :P

I use it only on weekends or the occasional evening. They're absolutely horrible at telling when billing occurs. It seems like anytime a connection is maintained and crosses that 6AM threshold they hit you with the entire connection's ("unlimited" included) worth in billing. It's a good backup for when my MWEB has issues or I want to spread bandwidth some.

I did try using it for a while and was good about resetting the modem to separate connections, but I quickly got throttled into uselessness from doing some streaming and downloading some TV shows via NZB.

Wasn't this problem sorted out or is it still an issue?

Here's what I've found, having used the Bolt-on for about 3 months ; was on the Capped for probably 8 months before that, maybe even a bit longer.

Just be aware that it takes quite some time for the Usage to reflect - so far today, it's still not showing my usage from the weekend. I've just logged on to check. Compare that to other ISPs that update almost immediately - I'd love to know what @lantic are getting so wrong in this respect ?

Since they went onto the new system, they've slowly gotten things right, like the split between capped & bolt-on for billing.
They made some changes recently (confirmed by the Head Office) & updating system was also down for some time last week - since then I've noticed that you need to give a few minutes either side of 6am / 6pm to log off / on so the times reflected in the data usage are accurate.
eg. It seems that if you log-off & even switch the modem off a minute before 6am (internet time), their system shows you to of logged-out about 6:04am - seemed to be more accurate before they messed around a week ago !

I've found the billing's improved markedly, as that was a mess at one stage.

Other than the odd negative above, it generally works well - just wish they'd sort themselves out with the usage delays.
Aware they're reliant on Telkom, but so are (some) other ISPs. @lantic have been at it since December 2012 since they moved over to the new system, and still seem a bit lost.

If still to sign-up, this is the link to check on data :

I have had a hassle free experience with them. I now tend to mainly connect Friday night and go to Monday morning with the odd night when I connect. I have had hassle free billings and bar the odd occassion, speeds have been superb. I think it is a bargain and hope not too many get on the bandwagon so that it becomes too slow :)

Thanks IOU re the connect / disconnect times. I will play it a bit safer than I have been on this front

So basically you have to manually connect at just after 6pm then disconnect right before 6am els all the data you downloaded will contribute to your cap or you will get charged for it, if your on a Gig4Gig ?

Thats a bit silly as I normally just leave my ADSL router connected 24/7...

So lets say I am on that local Gig4Gig and I am downloading a mass of Linux distros from a international news group, surely that should just get disconnected at 6pm as my non uncapped bandwidth doesnt include any international bandwidth.

PS did read everyone's posts and it seems to be a bit hit or miss regarding how there system records bandwidth.

The billing issue, from a few months, has seemly been sorted.

Other then this little hiccup I am currently having with them I am insanely happily with the product :)

I am waiting for feedback from Vox on my last invoice regarding there cap feature. It worked before they changed the client portal/billing that you could set a cap amount for your day time usage. I know this worked before because in the first months that I used the account I would need to call them to increase it if I could not get on line to do so myself. Now I have used double that amount for last month. I am fine to pay it if I used it but if the feature is there and there is no notification that it doesn't work that not great. Since they bill from the 20th I think that they have not made the capped amount work for 1 month but split it into 2 instead for 1 billing cycle.

As I said I am waiting for feedback on this as it is a little annoying since I thought I had a safe guard to not over use the amount in the day. Depending on what they say I might start turning the router off in the day again.

Seems like a stupid system. I know nothing about how it works, but is it so hard for the system to figure out the time and automatically switch over billing at the cut off times thus ensuring accurate billing?

Pretty hard to figure out when you used data if their provider (Telscum) is providing them with inaccurate info:
eg. It seems that if you log-off & even switch the modem off a minute before 6am (internet time), their system shows you to of logged-out about 6:04am

But from what I've seen the billing is waaaay better than in the beginning.
