@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

Thanks guys, appreciate it :)

You guys know of a great reminder app I can run on the pc, just to remember I should switch accounts.

If you are planning on doing that let me suggest something that would work great.....

Put your router in Half Bridge mode... In the router you put @lantic uncapped bolt on details. Then you dial on all your pc's to the afrihost account via pppoe. That solution works great. Don't forget to disconnect your afrihost capped account 6pm and over weekends or your cap will be reached quite fast if you download and forget you are connected to the capped account.

Thanks. I thought about doing this. I'm not sure about Half Bridge mode, but what I am currently doing is running my uncapped account through the router, and dialing my cap accounts to access my full line speed when I need it.
Your way sounds similar.
Thanks

@ I O U
Will do, Dankie :)

Is this the "Adjust Additional Cap (GB)" function in the client control panel? :)

Well worth it.... You will see the quality and amount of data you will be able to do. Still have the account and my monthly debit order goes off every month.

What I like is that I set the extra gig limit to 0 which means I do not pay extra for gigs cause if I went over it got capped for day time usage but still remains uncapped after hours.... That ensures that the bill stays @ only R59 p/m

Yes it it. Just log in click on My service the ADSL. Click on View Account. There it is you can adjust it there. If the limit is reach its capped during the day but still uncapped afterhours

Just for everyone else's information sake. I had some strange video streaming performance after signing up. I then realized i chose the home Gig4Gig account and it could very well be related to shaping. Have upgraded to platinum now and will report back if the performance has improved. if all goes well, then I am going to cancel my telkom uncapped account and convert my Gig4Gig to a Fat Pipe 50gb which they say is also unshaped. :)

Gig4Gig Platinum + Bolton is lightening fast. Seriously, streaming like a dream. Going to sign up for their fatpipe 50/100gb soon. Good stuff vox :D

Ohh so they are implementing that hey. Maybe I'm lucky not to be shaped cause I joined such a long time ago.... Maybe they just shaping new customers?

Anyways enjoy. This account is freaking awesome with twitch.tv streaming and p2p

I've had the Bolt-on for about a year already (and the Gig4Gig even longer). Found that during the early hours of this morning, streaming was really slow ; I didn't check the speeds, but there was either a lot of buffering, or was motionless depending on the site - YouTube etc.

Will see if this persists, and if it does so, will probably move to a Capped account, elsewhere.
If Vox are starting to shape on the Bolt-on (which has limited use each day), then I won't be forced into using one of their alternative products. I don't need more than about 20 - 30GB per month. Can anyone suggest which 2 or 3 ISPs offer the cheapest Capped rate up to about 30GB ?

Hi Peeps,

When one is using this strategy, do you have to cycle your router at 6am/pm or can one just leave it and is done automatically on the ISP side?

Thanks,

I'm also curious about this.
And I'm worried that after 6pm with the uncapped bolt-on gaming speeds will suffer.
And now Web Africa has come out with their 60GB+60GB special @ R199 which is R10 more than what I pay VOX for the 50GB fat pipe.

I leave mine on all the time.
Seems like they have sorted out problems they had originally in allocating usage during bolt-on and non bolt-on times.

So do you put in the details of the capped account? And after 6 they switch over to the bolt-on?

I have the 50GB Fat pipe and the bolt on uncapped - so its all automatic
