@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on' feedback

ISP phantom maths...

At what point can one start claiming $$$ for time wasted?

I copied my original post with some additional details after doing some basic analysis of the full April usage report provided by Michael Van Staden and fired it off as an email to vox early in the week, ref ATL4569036.

On the 4th the ticket gets closed with:
Your credit request of R510.00 has been approved & loaded on your @lantic account.

So I reopen the ticket:
Could you please provide me with a breakdown/raw source data that you used to get to the R510 credit.

And closed again on the 5th with a promise that I'll get the raw data with the ticket-closed-email:
The R510.00 was calculated by our accounts dept. it was confirmed that 34 Gig should have been linked to your bolt-on service & not billed on your Gig4Gig services.
34Gig x R15.00 per gig
= R510.00

Ha, no data received with the above email so I call them up today and get them to reopen the ticket. As per Ruth the person with the data had already left for the day and I can get it Monday. Get her to mail me the comments on the ticket, I assume, that gave me some frightening insight:

Since when is 15698017246 bytes 15.698017246GB by the way? Did an ISP just forget about 1024?! :wtf:

Vox charged my client R930, 12GB + 50GB = 62GB x R15/GB in excess usage for the month of April. Total usage on their side only showed a usage of ~58GB usage. Refund of 62-58 = 4GB is thus due to begin with.

Since they charge per GB, the above "15.69GB" becomes 16GB and they then subtract it from the 50GB, not the 62GB for whatever reason, and concludes a refund of only 34GB is in order. Wrong. 15698017246 Bytes should be 14.62GB, iow 15GB. Means that the rest of the usage was off-peak/uncapped. 58-15 = 43GB additional refund due.

Then we need to remember the first free GB of these G4G accounts that means my client is due a refund of at least 4 + 43 + 1 = 48GB.

I've had many a tussle with ISPs and network engineers about this, and they all referred me to the wikipedia page where it says that 1 GB = 1000000000 bytes. Apparently 1024 is only used by Microsoft to denote memory sizes :wtf:

Is anyone experiencing dismal performance with Vox lately?

This is what I'm getting on Afrihost right now:

And this is what I'm getting on Vox

Seems to have been this way for a couple of days now :(

Looks like AH have fixed their issues at least.

Is that a fat pipe account?

sorry should of mentioned, yup Fat Pipe with the bolt on uncapped. The uncapped bolt on shouldn't be shaping me right?

Shouldn't be shaped no, not sure if they throttle though as their T+C's are pretty unclear. How much you pull so far this month?

Well advertising 40mbps speed on this thread would get the bandwidth hogs interested in no time.

Matter of time before the price goes up or we look for another decent connection.

I think you're maybe being a little paranoid. :D

Feedback.. suuuuuuuuure :p

You got me interested, let's hope the month ends soon

Yes, I was contacted this morning after sending a further email. I'm told I am now activated. Thanks for asking Voxy.
Would be better if signup was as simple as the online-signup for the capped packages, where
you are activated instantly nogal.
Anyway, can't wait to try this out tonight. Cheers!

EDIT: Confirmed; working. And working well:)

Thanks for the feedback.
We are working towards online-signups. Watch this space :)

Reminder that uncapped bolt on is not in effect today... ;)

I got total of 180GB of data that has been rolled over so I'm good today. Ohh and unshaped also... Everything is awesome... :D

Received a call this morning from Vox asking me if if everything is order and if I'm happy with my account. Thought it was a nice touch.

+1 to call center lady.
