Laptop charge mechanism

Hi guys,

I dont ask for help much, but I'm working and dont have that much time to research these days.

So I thought of my friendly neighborhood techies :D

Anyways, a 48v adapter was plugged into my laptop by mistake (my adapter was 19V 4.7a) and ever since then my battery doesnt charge anymore. But it still gave out power from 70% all the way down to 1% now...

The charging light is on when plugged in, but windows doesnt show it charging...


Anyways, I can get a new battery, but I want to make sure...is it the battery thats fooked or the charging mechanism?

Give me your thoughts...any help appreciated :D
 
The battery should be fine - they're quite tough. I'm willing to bet a fair sum of money that you blew a voltage regulator.
 
As Messugga said, the problem more than likely lies with the regulator, it is normally not a separate part being surface mounted on the actual motherboard so the entire motherboard would probably have to be replaced. Hopefully the agents won't charge you an arm or a testicle to replace.
 
I like how you call something purely electronic a mechanism :D I shall ask my 2 gurus - google, and this crazy electronics guy in the office though he is in a meeting currently. I do however also think your battery is fine. It will have circuitry to protect itself. So more than likely you have blown a regulator (like Messuga said) inside the laptop.
 
Ok for future peeps who also experience this...my charge circuit was blown...can be replaced by swapping out a chip...thank goodness...now just need to find my invoice
