Laptop HDD Error..Help Please

Hey there

Need some help regarding the a 2.5 ATA100 Laptop HDD. The hard-drive seems to have failed and need to recover the data off it..(belongs to a friends, doing this as a favour). Apparently the laptop hangs at the Black-SOD just after the POST. It wont boot from the XP CD and for now I'm a little stumped. Looking for advice on how to approach the situation as I'm going to see it tomorrow. Heard about Laptop IDE adaptors but no-one seems to be selling them except off the web which I'm not to fond of. Any help would be appreciated and if you have any questions just ask.

2. Image drive with GNU ddrescue
3. Mount image
4. Recover files

I assume you looking to slave the drive by using an IDE adapter ....if so check out this thread to source one
