Laptop RAM compatibility

Hi guys.

Does laptop RAM compatibility work more or less the same as desktop RAM?

The reason for my asking is that I bought an 16gig (2x8gig) set of DDR3 RAM for my laptop and after installing it did not want to boot.

Tried both sticks in both slots with no success.

The RAM I purchased is Kingston : KVR16S11/8 (1.5v)
and the laptop I want to install it in is a Dell Latitude E7240.

You need Low Voltage Memory for that Notebook

Thanks. I see the low voltage ones run at about 1.35v instead of the 1.5v these run.
