Hey Folks. Non-tech wizard with a basic general understanding here, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 i3 laptop , It is extremely slow on start up and starting certain programs(Chrome,VLC ect) . What options could I look at it? Ram Upgrade, SSD ? Thanks

Not all laptops can have their memory upgraded these days - a lot of them have the memory soldered to the motherboard to make them thinner. Dell is usually more upgradeable though, so you will probably be in luck.

What are the specs of the laptop at the moment?

SSD will definitely help, so will more memory, but it depends on how much you have at the moment.

How old is the laptop?

windows 64 bit
minimum 8 gig ram
ssd drive

this sorted my laptop out.

Having a laptop that doesnt have any RAM or HDD access hatches is one of my biggest turn offs when it comes to laptops.

If the whole back panel comes off like macbooks then its fine too.

Things are changing these days. Dell is usually good with upgradeability, but even then, you have to remove the back panel. Unless it is a Latitude, which is more business focused.

And the thin laptops you generally cannot upgrade the memory at all. It is just soldered in, no DIMM slots.

Besides upgrade to SSD and more RAM....what a lot of people don't realise is to

disable/uninstall if poss all unnecessary services/programs (you can start them manually or the system will), startup programs like Skype, MS Team, etc, etc and you'll feel a helluva load lighter ;)

I like my laptop to be mean and lean...like me.

Thanks guys, well it went in this morning for more Ram and a SSD conversion
