I have an Acer 5626 laptop running Windows XP, with built-in card reader. I've never used the card reader before but today I inserted an 8Gb SanDisk SD SDHC Card (2) into the laptop's card reader slot but the laptop does not detect it at all. (The card itself is not faulty since it works when inserted in the camera, can take pics etc.)

I tried to update the drivers for the laptop's card reader but the version on Acer's support site is the same as the version I already have installed. I found newer versions of the drivers for the TI (Texas Instruments) card reader but my laptop model is not on the list, or it's always for Vista only and I'm running XP.

Searching in Google, I found a lot of posts online of people complaining that their card reader cannot read this new "SDHC" SD cards or cards that have a bigger capacity than 2Gb.

Any suggestions on getting the laptop to detect this new generation 8Gb card? Or is my only option to buy an external card reader? How do I know it will read these SDHC class (2) 8Gb cards?
