Has anyone gone for this? What are your thoughts on it? Would you recommend it? Costs?

I am considring it, and I am just looking for some more information.

Thanks

My wife did it and says the best R15K she ever spent. I cannot do it though but hope the procedure improves enough that I can have it done

funny that when one meets an opthalmologist, they always seem to be wearing glasses. if the doctors themselves won't wear contacts or have surgery it should make one think...

The best 20k I have ever spent, I did it at the end of last year. Had to do a touch up on the one eye (6 months later), it was alot weaker to start off on though. Great thing is, everything, including follow ups, is included in the once off price. Now my eyes are great. And you really do appreciate how much of a pain in the a$$ glasses can be.

I have met many, and none of them wear glasses. Never mind the fact that not everyone that wears glasses is eligible. So please, don't think too hard, with logic like yours we have no idea what will happen!

My bad :-)
Thanks for the feedback guys. I actually thought it was going to be a lot more, like R25k per eye.

Alot of those threads are pretty dated. I paid 20k for both at the end of last year. My brother paid 15k about a year prior. Certainly the best thing I ever did for myself. I tried the Pretoria Eye Institute (Dr Eugene Meyer), didnt like them much. So went to the same people as my brother, Visiomed in J'burg. Great service and experience.

What would the costs of Lasek Eye Surgery involve?

What do you mean? Do you want the total cost which ranges from R15k-R20k or do you want a breakdown of the total costs?

Preop:
Consultation.
Scan to determine cornea thickness and to generate topographic map of the cornea.

Operation:
Theatre/machine time
Mild sedative
Anesthetic eye drops
Disposable metal blades that create flaps (this might be done with a laser as well these days), I recall these being fscking expensive
All kinds of relatively cheap sundries

Postoperative:
Eye patches
Anitbiotics
Anti-inflammatories
Checkups the next day and several days afterwards.

The above also includes the fees for opthamologist & assitants.

Back when I got mine done I only received one inclusive bill for R12k, nothing more. This was more than 10yrs ago by Dr. JAW Carlisle but I think she is retired now.

I would recommend you go buy yourself a decent pair of polarised sunglasses prior to the operation as you are gonna need them as everything seems very bright postop. If you do a lot of driving at night you might also want to get some night driving glasses as the halo vision can be pretty bad and the car lights are blinding. This might vary by individual.

If you can get get it done for less than R15k for both eyes consider it a bargain.

Always think very, very carefully before going for a bargain medical procedure
