Do you have anything on the Magalies in Pretoria?:D

I have a couple of lattice masts in the alberton/johannesburg area. anyone who would like to come and have a look and take dimensions etc is welcome. I have a 12m mid-hinge lattice which is great cause im scared of heights and some 15m sectional lattice masts and 45 and 55m triangular latice masts. Bear in mind that any mast over 15m is subject to having an EIA done which is very costly and every mast installation is subject to approval from town planning. The cost of applying is in the region of R5000 per mast. I have one 14m sectional lattice mast for sale if anyone is interested.
As far as just "putting in enough triangle thingies" to make it stable, it doesnt work like that. Masts need to be correctly designed for wind loading, sheer stresses, etc. Even the size of the antennas can make a difference in terms of the amount of wind loading. If anyone would like more advice, please feel free to mail me and ill assist where i can.

I would love a few pics if possible? Maybe you could post them here?

I am going to build a 12m lattice from scrap metal and I intend documenting the whole procedure. Will post the pics.:D

The above photos are for the "mid Hinge" lattice mast. 12M high. Construction is from 3mm thick 50X50mm angle and 8mm round bar. Stuctural strength is very good (this mast has withstood gale force winds). The foundation is Ferro Concrete which was cured over a period of 22 days by covering it with hessian bags and keeping it soaked with water. the re-inforcing cage inside the foundation is a mixture of 20 and 30 mm re-inforcing steel. Foundation is 1,2m X 1,2m x 1m deep into sandstone.
The cage on the left side is the counterweight to which bricks are added or removed based on the weight of the equipment on the top of the mast. This mast is situated at my place on top of the hill in Alberton North with a view of the whole of Alberton, Dawnview, Carlton centre, etc.
