Lay off Suarez will you!

Banning is uncalled for, even Keita shouldn't be banned for his acting that helped send Kaka off for a red card(a tragedy for fantasy league managers ) , it's the rules that need to change.

They don't have to change the laws.

They can charge Suarez under the existing "Fair play" FIFA statute for bringing the game into disrepute and ban him for a few years.

The laws are there, they just don't enforce them.

Please don't tease.

I'd love for that can of worms to be opened - good bye Spain, Thierry, Mexican match officials and quite a few FIFA committees.

ANYONE who uses a disallowed tactic to gain an advantage is a cheat! Seriously... this is not rocket science.

Suarez just did it in a much more open way at a pivotal moment in the game.

Throwing yourself to the ground in the middle of the field in order to score a penalty kick is hardly pivotal... but it is still cheating.

Come now... seriously... now we are just repeating ourselves and going around in circles.

if you think his cheating is fine... just come out and say it and be done with it... then we can move on.

I don't think that cheating is fine, generally, however I'm not going to lambaste Suarez and send out the hit-sqauad like many others have because of what he did. His actions were ingrained into him, I can guarantee that. He didn't plan it - it was a spur of the moment, reactionary decision that won his team the game. Unfairly? Yes. Does he or anyone else care? No. Would a Ghanain have done the same thing? You can bet your bottom dollar he would have. Should Fifa maybe review intentional handballs in the penalty area, or professional fouls committed to avoid goals being scored? Certainly.

I think Suarez's actions after the incident are putrid though and he shouldn't be seen dead trying to celebrate what he did. However it does show how ingrained this action is to him (and to any other professional footballer) - he doesn't even see it as a big deal...

Perhaps extending his ban by a game, so he misses the final should Uruguay make it, would be justified

They will be changing the laws if they ban him for a few years, where have you heard of a player banned for handling the ball on the line.

Nope, it's all in the existing laws - deliberate cheating, bring the game into disrepute - can get a life ban.

Exactly. +1

Oh and Albereth, the definition of the word cheat is to deprive through trickery or underhandedness. By that definition he is too a cheat.

Yeah but FIFA are **** they have bark but no bite... look at Henry and his handball against Ireland... what about Robbie Keane?

Based on your argument every deliberate foul is bringing the game into disrepute, half the defenders and defensive midfielders should then be banned. How would it have been different if he pulled the player down in the penaly area and he was the last defender.

Yes, but it depends on the severity - FIFA will have to judge.

Of course, the Suarez incident is about as serious as it gets - about the only thing more serious would be to pull out a pistol and shoot the goalie.

It is disgusting... how do you celebrate after that. Are you really the better team ? its like having sex with your sister and then telling your friends you hooked up.

If you look at the pictures you will see it is an overhanded parry of the ball :p

There was no trickery - it was blatant and deliberate. He did not pretend to not have hand balled. It was 'professional'. It was against law 12 and he was given the appropriate sanction. And Ghana missed the penalty. To call him a 'cheat' (and not every single other player who has transgressed law 12 one too) is just the emotion coming out.

I think it was Jola who said that FIFA could take this further if they want. So far, all has been quiet and I think that is because it will open a can of worms that FIFA don't want opened. Ask Ireland.

Ireland dont want it opened either, because then the world will then know how they should never have been playing France in that qualifer in the first place.

Their was no trickery but his overhanded parry was very underhanded.:D And he is not the first footballer I've called a cheat. That Frenchman with the strong left hook that knocked out Ireland is also a cheat and all the actors too.

I agree with you on the actors and even though there is a sanction in the laws I would label those players as cheats. Funny huh?

The difference for me is that they pretend something happened, when it didn't. And some of them are very convincing.

Thierry (I think that's the Frenchman to whom you refer) claimed that it didn't touch his hand although there is footage to the contrary. To me that is cheating - sure, there is a sanction for a handball (if given).

This gives over to why a ref's job is difficult. Surely he should only blow to what he sees. But then he can't see everything so that's why you have the incidents where there is cheating. Bring in the technology and soccer will be cleaned up. We've proven that the decision can be made pretty quickly so the game won't be slowed down. Well, most certainly not more than the Oscar ceremony every time a Spainard comes within 10' of the opposition.
