Think that one is a 42"

Thanks for the reply - hope so... Was a toss-up between the LG and the Samsung for R7299 - went for the former since it has a VGA input, which will allow me to finally utilise that old pc I have been promising to convert to a media server... Checked out some more reviews of the LG tonight, and whereas they're not brilliant, they all pretty much concur that it's a "good value for money set"... So it would pretty much suck if I paid too much...

Why VGA? DVI/HDMI/DP are better, and most modern TVs have PC Mode which strips the otherwise-added post processing & overscan, resulting in 1:1 pixels for proper 1920x1080, etc.

True. But as mentioned - old pc, without DVI/HDMI/DP.

While I understand your argument, I think you should rather have upgraded the old pc as well.
You should try not to make purchasing decisions to accommodate old equipment, but rather the longevity only of the new equipment.

BTW Game will still refund you the difference + 10% if you find it cheaper elsewhere within 21 days after purchase.

Fair enough but how old? Assuming PCI-E 16x graphics slot, a suitable
HTPC graphics card would only cost around R350. HD6450, GT210, etc. Video and sound over HDMI too.

Ja - valid point that. Don't want to hijack the thread now - but will yap with the installation people tomorrow. Haven't opened the box yet - so if advisable, hopefully Game won't kick up too much of a fuss if I take it back to get the Samsung...

About the pc - had my head stuck in a rut. Have an awesome sounding Creative pc surround sound system, that worked on the old pc through the Soundblaster card. Part of me wanted to still be able to use it as is, which had me settle on the LG with the VGA in. Only use my MBP as a pc at home - cannot really justify upgrading the old desktop, if I can get away using it as is. Thanks for all the replies!

LG's sales schpiel on their passive tech vs the competition's active tech:

Watch that and comment - anyone have any arguments against those points?

Hey all - Need some help.

Family member has R9000 max to spend on a new LCD. TV will be in the lounge, view distance of about 3metres and the room has no direct sunlight that will affect it.

Looking for 42/46 size, LED LCD, 3D is not needed and doubt he will be able to use a smart TV - any recommendations?

So far I've seen the following:

SAMSUNG 46" (117cm) 3D FHD LED TV. Model: UA46EH6030
