Sammy 43e450 for R3899

That is what I would go for. Though, try and check out the units if they have them on display.

Depends what you're using the TV for.

Somehow I knew you'd ask that :). I'm moving in to a new place next week and not to sure what the lightning will be like, but I think I should be able to get it pretty dark (at least most of the time). Mainly my kids watching DVDs, the odd movie, 7e laan for my wife and, of course, sport when I get the time. I'll probably get a bluray player pretty soon too now that I have a HDTV.

Viewing distance will be 2-5m.

The 6030 was sold out so I went for the plasma. standing in the exceedingly long check out cue trying to decide whether to take the extended (for a total 6 year) warranty for R600 extra. Anybody have experience with their extended warranty?

Not sure what their extended warranty is like but 6 years would make me feel more comfortable. When a modern TV goes, it's often tickets for the unit.

I think the plasma is a good choice, excellent price, will definitely keep the kids and wife happy with DVDs, 7de Laan and movies (assuming SD). Sport will be excellent too. Blurays, while not rendering the full resolution, will still look excellent from 2.5m+ back. Also 3" bigger which does make a difference!

These TVs really shine when they're under dimmer lighting. Enjoy!

*edit*

R6,999 with BR player isn't bad for the 46" version, although it brings you into 51" plasma territory. :D

True that. Decided to stick with the plasma, the price differential for the 46"is just too much.

Man, there are some really good TV deals lately. I am planning to upgrade from my Panasonic 32 inch tv. It is great, but I moved and now sit a LOT further from my tv so it would be nice to get a bigger tv. We sit about 4 - 5m away from the set.

My TV will be hooked up to my PC (media centre), and my XBox. My wife and I watch movies and series daily. It is a mix of Netflix and downloaded stuff. Mostly SD, some HD. So I am thinking that a plasma would be better; though I wouldn't mind download HD episodes only if I needed to.

I am tending toward PS51E550, but the UA55EH6030 also seems very tempting. Though when I compared the two units on paper the plasma came out ahead. Just wondering if it is worth paying R4k extra for 5 inches of diagnose screen real-estate. Also Makro has the PS51E550 for R9k.

Opinions?

You could even get away with 51" HD Ready plasma at R6,500ish - not as future proof though. Would display SD content better.

Good price for a branded 55" LCD, although nearing 60" FHD plasma territory... :D

Yeah, I had considered that, but I also have my pc connected to the computer connected to the TV, so the higher res would be appreciated. Hopefully will be able to pick up the PS51E550 today or tomorrow :D

Hehehehehehe. Man, I am soo tempted, but I think I will hold out getting a 55''+ for 2 years or so. Hopefully 75''+ would be cheap by then (here is to hoping)

i currently have a 40" samsung 7 series LCD TV (LA40A750). I see Game are running a special on a 55" Samsung LED UA55EH6030. the screen size would suit me a lot better. would i notice much difference stepping down from a 7 series to a 6?
