Definitely not TN in the Samsung, S-PVA.

Best option for picture quality and size would be the Samsung PS51E550 51" FHD plasma.

Awwww yiiiisssssssssssssssssssss, that's awesome.
Was looking at the earlier version of it (on Game's specials) but it was 1024x768... this is perfect, thanks ^^

That would be the Series 4, also brilliant. If she's sitting far back, say 3.5m+, she may want to save a bit of bob and go for it instead, because FHD isn't really needed from longer viewing distances. Also take into account older eyes etc.

But if she has the budget, by all means get the Series 5 FHD.

I have the series 4 plasma for a year now. I am extremely happy with its performance and picture quality. I mainly watch 720p content and find it very clear even from 2m away

Good to hear. Mine too, 2.5 year old PS42C450. Life of Pi in HD was spectacular on it last night. My LCD/LED-LCDs don't come close.

Depends on your sets and their configuration state.

I just finished re-watch in Predator (original Arnie), started in the lounge on my 51E550 plasma and finished on my 46D6000 LED in the bedroom. PQ as close as damnit for me (both properly configured, streaming same file from my home server).
 
Need some advice... Looking for a telly for the living room. The problem is the bar area is around 9m from the wall where I plan to mount it and I don't want to squint to see the rugby scores so I was looking at perhaps a 55"+ screen. Other factors is that the room has a lot of natural light coming in from the patio door and window and glare / reflection is a concern.

Uses: DSTV HD PVR, bluray and other multi media, some basic web surfing.

Budget around 20k or so.
 
I'm looking for the most cost effective Full HD Plasma I can find - any ideas?

So far only found Samsung PS51F5500 @ R10000

LG and Panasonic don't seem to have smaller (40 - 50") Full HD Plasma TVs anymore...
 
The one at game is neither the E550 or E490 but it is full HD
 
I'm wondering if the Panasonic TH-P42U30Q 1080p Plasma is worth the price premium over the standard Samsung HD-Ready PS43F4900 3D set.

I know the Panasonic makes great Plasma panels but the 'U' series is their entry level series and paying 9k for entry level seems excessive when the Sammy goes for 6k. I can't help but think that the Panasonic is a rip-off. 1080p is nice but is it worth 3k and are the U-series panels and processors of the same high quality as their better sets?

That Panasonic is rather good, but hard to come by..
It really depends if you're after the resolution of Full HD or if you're happy with the lower resolution..
