LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Guys i need some help here. I need to purchase a tv for my room which il be mainly using to watch hd movies on. Im pointing towards the plasma you guys have been discussing as my local game branch said i can have it at R8800. Now the confusing part here is my friend has offerd me his Samsung series7 Smart Interaction 46inch LED at R9000 model UA46F7500. Dion wired has it for R14900. The tv is a year old with still 1year warranty remaining. Which do i go for? And why?
 
Just a quick thank you for all the advice...unboxed, set up and played around with my new PS51F5500...it is ****ing awesome! :D:D:D

Postman, you were spot-on - the size is perfect!

Tested a few 1080P sources...WOW! SmartHub is fun and I like the touch remote. Just installed Plex app and busy installing on server to test.

Evening/night viewing?

Daytime viewing? Ambient light level? Curtains?

Viewing distance?

Viewing distance 4meters.

Most of the time it will be evening/night viewing. Very seldom will i get time to watch during the day.

PS51F5500 100%.

4m - need as big as you can.

Evening/night viewing - plasma wins.

So even thou the series 7 is 800hz and full interaction with built in skype camera etc you still feel the PS51F5500 is a better option for me? Il also be saving R6000 on the new price.

Do you guys know how much is it to extend the warranty when purchasing a PS51F5500?

You'd likely never use 800 CMR (400Hz) for movies, it makes them look fake.

It's called the soap opera effect. Read about it below.

Plasma
Up until recently SOE has been an LCD-only "issue." In the effort to make plasmas more competitive in a retail store, motion smoothing circuitry has found its way into plasmas. Because plasma TVs don't suffer from the motion blur problems that LCDs have (or at least, not to the extent), motion smoothing is largely superfluous. For that matter, plasmas aren't increasing their refresh rates to insert new frames, so all that's really happening is the TV is creating new frames to insert in-between the film frames, just to make the motion smoother.

About R800 which increases it to a 3 year warranty AFAIK (unless it's 5 year?).

But this is a store warranty, not a manufacturer warranty.
 
iirc it should be about R1500 to extend by 3 years
(varies with the purchase price of the unit)
sofor a total of 5 years @ R300 a year I think its worth it

That said, my first TV I bought I added the extra warranty and didnt need it
The one I bought recently I didnt, so ya it all depends, its like insurance...
 
Thanks for the help guys. Going to call Game tomorrow to get the price of the extended warranty and il try go get the tv on Thursday.
 
Anybody find the picture of the Ps51f5500 soft? I've been using a newly purchased Samsung 40" 5 series LED for the last 2 weeks and am struggling with the plasma being soft and less vivid/bright. Or could it be that the TV is problematic?
