LCD or Plasma

i knew i was gonna get a 42", but didn't realise the box was gonna be so big. my GF had to go back into macro to get some rope - my hatchbacks boot wouldn't close!

Yes the bloody packaging is intense on these things. No way I was keeping that box for guarantee purposes. :D

How much is this extra 100w on a plasma going to cost in the long run anyway?

thats why an etch-a-sketch is the way forward!!
Those things rock with their awesome shake to reset ability.....
Im sorry what were we talking about?

the panasonic plasmas i have seen displayed far superior images compared to the LCDs display with the exception of the sony bravias :) wow those colours were awesome

Ja, again - it depends on what brand you buy. I but the cheapest pretty much of anything, except displays, cause I look at them a lot.

Look I don't watch allot of TV, some movies and sport, mostly the kids use it for cartoons/disney and playstation. So it does what it does, for the price i wanted to pay for the thing. To me it does not really matter much.

A lot, and if you look at replacement price because it died out then you are talking a lotta money... Besides, a big thing going for the LCDs is the fact that I like them. As you may have seen before, what I like is good and what I do not like is bad. So there is something to keep in mind when you go shopping. What would Rouxenator buy ? :p

not an iMac, iPhone or any other apple Product, including apples, apple juice, toffy apples and apple pie. also does not like candy apple paint jobs, or apple falvoured products.

Recently finished reviewing 5 HD TV's for an Av Mag and can definately say that as far as LED backlighting goes, it is not there yet. It initially looks impressive but is hard on the eye and this leads to rapid eyestrain.

To level the playing fields all TV's were calibrated using some sophisticated calibration equipment I have.

In my opinion the best TV if you mostly watch SABS, E, or SD DSTV is still a good old 100Hz CRT. All other HD TV's have to scale the incoming image and this often leads to an inferior image.

What LED backlight TV sets did you review? I haven't seen any on the local market yet.

I prefer LCD over Plasma, and 1080P LCDs are a bit more commonly available than 1080P plasma displays...

That being said, I wouldn't mind having this plasma screen. :o

Rouxenator is trying to defend his LCD purchase ;)

Plasma is superior overall. Full HD plasma is available and the 3 premier plasma makers beat out the 3-4 top LCD makers in terms of name and prestige. Panasonic, Hitachi and Pioneer > Sony, Samsung and Toshiba.

My next set will also be a Plasma.

This will be it unless Hitachi or Panasonic pull something better off.

"The Pioneer KRP-600A and KRP-500A will be available in the middle of October 2008 for a suggested retail price of 940,000 yen and 670,000 yen (including tax) respectively." Current sets go for $2600 for 50 inches though.

That's over $9400 USD and $6700, although even the bad $/Yen exchange rate I'm sure the Japanese co's will
market their TVs for less in the States. That will be the place to import a big 50 inch plus Plasma.

Why Hitachi? I'm spoiled, the year I bought my Hitachi, it was the best set on the European market.
Still Hitachi has some great upconversion technology coming up:

That has really gotten me excited, just compare the normally upconverted image to the Hitachi upconverted one.

Here is the actual pic:

Still it seems that both Hitachi and Pioneer will be sourcing their panels from Matshus-hita (Panasonic's parent company)
according to Pioneer's Japanese boss.

Still the thing to remember whether it's Panasonic's Viera, Hitachi or Pioneer's Kuro,
the idea is to buy a Japanese engineered and hopefully assembled product.

I have nothing against Korean Samsung or LG or Dutch Philips or British Thompson, but Japan
is the country with the premier technology and the R&D behind the best tech out there. Pity
about Sony being Japanese, cos they're the only company I think is not worthy.
