Yeah I know there must have been a million of these threads, but ohwell here goes another one.

I'm looking to buy an LCD/Plasma, as my LCD was stolen, first off budget = R10 000.
Now I'm thinking my usage is as follows: TV=40%;Gaming on PS3=30%;Watching movies=30%.
But here's where it gets interesting, I'm thinking off connecting my computer to my TV, and I will then be doing gaming on it from my computer.

So now my question is, what will be best in my situation, as I understand Plasma is the picture quality king, while LCD is alot better for computer applications.
The LCD also have the FULL HD where as the Plasma will be HD ready but not full HD, I know you get Full HD Plasma TV's but not in my budget.

Can you guys please give me advice & if you spot a bargain, put it in here.

Thanks.

Actually you can get a 50 inch Full HD Plasma for 9999 every third week at Game. It's a Telefunken.

LCD=2009 BMW 320i, Plasma=1998 BMW 520i

Take your pick :)

But if u even remotely mention the term Computer/PS3/XBox LCD is the one. Plasma will not have the resolution to get it to look good at full HD.

The Glen Game opening special this week has a 40" Samsung Series 5 Full HD LCD for R8999 and the 40" Sony series S Full HD LCD for R9999.

For computer & gaming use Full LCD is the way to go. For SD content (DSTV) Plasma is better (HD ready or Full HD).

If I where you I would go for Full HD LCD.

:D Plasma kicks LCD arse on TV/movies

I agree LCD is probably better (how much?) with games than plasma, but what's that have to do with resolution? Are you saying that the LCD 1920x1080 is better than Plasma 1920x1080?

My opinion:

Full HD Plasma > Full HD LCD

HD Ready Plasma > HD Ready LCD

HD Ready Plasma > Full HD LCD for SD tv

Full HD LCD > HD Ready Plasma for PC, Gaming

marco79 you dont have the model number on that Samsung 40" perhaps ?

Actually I'm thinking if I go plasma I'll get the 42" one with my current SD PVR, or if I go LCD I'll go with the 32" Full HD one & get a HD PVR, will work out to about the same price.

Here's the Plasma's I had in mind.

And here's the LCD.

someone tell me why a plasma would need USB 2.0? And I dont see the resolution on that justcat site. resolution is important. Some plasma's were very good, others not. I'm sticking with the LCD for long-term ownership and best pic in mind.

Pfft! @ Siris! :)

I am not sure I get this. A plasma would need USB 2.0 for the same reason a LCD would. Viewing pictures, playing audio files and watching videos :) Is there something I am missing

In terms of your claims of better picture from an LCD take a look:

http://www.displaymate.com/LCD_Plasma_ShootOut.htm

I used to be a LCD fan as well but now I realise I was wrong (IMO of course)

Okay okay i was referring to an INPUT for picture on USB :)
I forgot it could be some kind of media port.

Maybe im being biased, since the only 2 plasmas ive watched movies on at friends were 5-yr-old Sansui's and my Blackberry had better resolution/quality.

How much Plasma panels have advanced i dont know. I just always thought the theory is that high resolutions and plasmas didnt mix, hence the LCD revolution (and now the LED revolution)

I believe the LCD Revolution is just hype. When I saw a couple of my friends lcd it changed my mind though. All the tearing and blurring... Not for me.

To the OP: See if you like something like this. These are great and you are going to be using DSTV so you wont need a tuner.

Panasonic TH-42PF11WK 42" Full HD Professional Plasma. This guy seems to want 8500 for it.

Yea - our current LED TV's are simply a different way of lighting the LCD panel.

Is that still availible ? Cause if it is, i'll defnitly buy it, Panasonic makes the best plasma TV's since Pioneer went out off the market.

I think the real LED is called OLED. Sony have a 13 inch for something silly like $3000 or something.

Pretty soon we will have 3D tv. Phillips already has them and Sony will be making the by next year. You won't need special 3D glasses as well...

hmm seems like the Panasonic one is a display tv, that they use in shops, for adverts & stuff like that, although all the specs on it is exactly the same as the home one.

It also seems it doesn't have speakers, or so it seems. Still trying to get all the facts.
But who really cares about speakers on a tv ?

Please guys keep the opinions coming, thx.
