had to laugh at this. time for the "rent a mob" to get a move on and let the kids do what they need to do, learn. after all isn't that the parents pay for.
went to pick my 2 girls up from school yesterday and noticed a group of policemen outside the school. thought they were expecting the striking force and were escorting the kids to the cars. when i looked to the right i noticed the crowd was already there.
apparently after the first break they had scaled the gates and forced some of the teachers out of the school wanting them to close the school. the police were quick to react.

When I was at school there was a teacher that I would have loved to through a stone at. Or maybe a large rock.

Typically of South African culture... Protesters disrupting ... the ANC way... scholars thinking they can act like hooligans... the ANC way

Fire some teachers ... others could do with their jobs.... and give those kids corporal punishment... regardless of defending rights vs wrongs... both were wrong

Only time I side with both groups... when its not their fault... is that they were taught to act like that.... the ANC way ;)

:wtf: These kids should be rounded up and given a good hiding.

I heard today that a number of Durban schools were disrupted, both public and private and pupils sent home. Where were the police or security personal? If I was a parent with a kid at these schools right now, I'd be pissed

I am a parent working at one of those schools... and yes I am upset, but I understand why... When the "fat cat's" take a 40% increase and the others have too fight for a 7%... it's understandable!

I had not realised Europeans learned this from the ANC.

Does that justify burning down schools and destroying property?

When I saw the title to this topic I thought it was the usual brats attacking working teachers.

On reading the article I say good on them. Who the hell do the union people think they are trying to disrupt active classes? If they want to strike then they can strike, but they have no right to actively try and disrupt classes that are not affected by the strike.

Saying "I have rights" is one thing. Saying "my rights are more important than yours" is another.

This default "I am unhappy and am therefore going to go demolish something" mode that a lot of South Africans have, particularly the Unions, is just plain stupid.

eh? what europeans? there are no europeans in south africa. we are all south africans. europeans can be found in england, france, italy etc.

i don't think you have any right to take away the constitutional right of the children. and that is exactly what you are doing. it is their right to an education you need to uphold your part in this whole equation. as a parent who pays their school fees up front at the beginning of the year, my children have the right to that education. take it up with the department of education in other ways not disrupt the years learning process.
and then the educators wonder why there is a failure rate of such a high percentage.
the matrics are in the middle of trials, this is important to them right now, and you think your strike is more important. i hope you remember when you did your trials, you weren't interrupted as rudely as this.
the children are now being forced to endure the trauma of witnessing such hooliganism if they go to school such as happened yesterday at the school mine go to. did you have to go through this when you were at school? then you ask yourself why are the children acting out in such terrible behaviour. it's exactly because of the way you and your fellow teachers behave in front of them. these children are in your presence the majority of the day and you are supposed to set a standard which they are supposed to follow, yet you display such hooliganism and expect the children to behave like angels.

And you are one 1 a million. When distrubtive(sp?) children's parents get called , the parents just say "but little jonnie is never naughty ...". Teachers are suppose to educate.. but parents wants the teachers to educate And discipline the children (and you can't do that). And you can't remove the kids from class because of his "right" to education.. and the parent want to do squat..

A job is a job.. other people strike so why can't teachers? Because they work with kids? Well then pay them more. Do you know what teachers earn? You can't make it living of it. Why is it such a bad thing for teachers to earn a good salary?

And teacher (or most of them) don't work 1/2 day. There is after school work, come home and mark test, setup test, mark books etc.

When I went to school.... I don't recall ever seen these things happen, or even heard about it.... but then again, it was mostly WHITE schools.

I don't get this, back when I went to school if I would have done anything remotely similar, the teacher would have moered me, send me to the headmaster, hy moer my, then he probably would phone the parents, mom would moer me, father comes home and he donders you with a rotang. And If I tried to call child support I would probably have been bliksemed all the way to their head office and back....'

Schools are meant to educate, parents are meant to teach their children manors.

Yeah the good old days when you could instill some discipline without getting sued.

and if for some other reason the teacher didn't find us.. everyone in the class would have gotten 6 of the best....needles to say we would sort it out amongs ourselves with who did it.....
