Learning to Cook

What's the best way to learn to cook a good meal?

I've been through some YouTube, some websites, etc.

I want to impress the lady a bit :)

Backstory: Relatively fresh / new relationship and want to impress with some cooking.

I'd highly recommend these

Ahhh, the classic "dinner at my place" second date.

The one time it really worked (ended up marrying her :p ) I made two ingredient pizza. The dough can be a bit of a mess BUT she stuck her hands in that bowl as well and it we got messy together :D

It's not really the quality of the plate of food that matters. A train wreck handled well is much more effective.

They say too many cooks can spoil the broth, is this objectively true?

... @Ecstatic Universe it is a skill you cultivate, not some song you do few rounds on the guitar to impress your chick. So pick something and git gut at it while you fail a few times. I've been at my gluten free bread for a few times before it just worked. Then when it does, or you've got a good base line (that is something that works) you can expand on that or experiment with it. Keep notes on what you did, what results you got and what you want to try next time. I've got mini journals for the GF bread, GF flour mixes, spice mixes and pizza base...

What are your go-to simple recipes you cook for guests?

Used to just fry hamburgers before but learnt a simple recipe which just involves grinding garlic, onions, pepper before mixing in a pot with mince and adding Mayo at the end.

buy doritos or big korn bites and make it a mince nachos recipe

get guac and sour cream

and your guests will be happy

I would start with something I know how to cook well. Then practice the other things before making them for someone you want to impress.
This.
What's wrong with a whole ribeye on the coals?

Find a cashier at Shoprite that can also cook

If I could find a decent recipe for a durban chicken curry, my life would be complete...

Get this:

Just add chicken and some chillies to taste, and sprinkle with fresh coriander leaves.

You will thank me later.
