Learnt my darn lesson with domestic worker

I used to have a zim lady doing cleaning. She was very efficient compared to the last few local cleaners. Unfortunately she moved to cowtang and I am using a cleaning service now after being burnt with CCMA cases from cleaners.

This is a reflection that you were a good employer to her. It is just unfortunate that she did not see and appreciate that.

Sure, there are people out there that take advantage of people, but to never be kind is bad advice - eventually the world is filled with bitter people that trust absolutely no-one, this in turn becomes the norm and eventually you are treated in kind.

If you are giving a gift to someone or a donation, you don't expect anything in return, if you employ someone for a service, you need a contract, that avoids the unnecessary issues that follow when things turn sour

I think that is the important part. You can be very kind to someone, loosing your job can feel like death sentence to some.

Just to add, the Department of Labour even has a generic template that you can edit - its a bit of work to do it all but worth it.

The response we got with the last 2 ladies was a bit of a serious look when they have to sign (even though its all fair and square), so they know you are doing everything according to the book and probably won't take any chances
 
So even when the OP had proof that she stole the warm top, he couldn't report to the police and file a case of theft ??
 
I refuse to get a domestic worker again (had endless hassles, slacking off, failure to pitch for work, wilful damage to property, half-asred work), it's just not worth the admin and eventual CCMA regardless of contract. I don't have time for s**t, all they have time for, is s**t. I am 8 years domestic-free! I learned how to sweep floors, wash my clothes and pack the dishwasher, minor cleaning and the eventual big spring clean in between. Not a big deal. Saved myself R15k a year, and I sleep easy at night.

Life is too short to be cleaning... You forgot to mention ironing, do you do that too, and what about washing and changing linen?

Would you yourself work for someone without a contract?
What if that employer just brushed you off with "fair is fair, do not worry"?

It comes off that because she is a domestic worker and not a local, you skipped ahead without bothering with the necessarily paper work.

Now because your mistakes you do not want to rehire another person?

Never any other, still am in fact. Didn't even bother with the handshake.

EDIT: haven't worked in a corporate company.
