That's actually very affordable considering you taking on non of the direct risk...
It is not even the 'risk' ,but it just works well. Domestics are trained.the 4 Domestics all did things similar they way they clean, moving things around, getting a ladder to clean on top of things . They asked me for certain products if it was not in the house. What should they polish the furniture with . What must they use on wood. How do I want my bed made....etc. also instead of loosing their job when I client pulls out or asks for someone else, they get assigned somewhere else. Their attitude is also different, they are professional, if they have an issue they can take it up with their employer etc. They get leave and bonuses I believe. I don't know what their pay is like but the lady haven't complained yet. She also bring her own food and organise own transport. Man, she doesn't even answer her phone when it rings unless it is the company.

So even when the OP had proof that she stole the warm top, he couldn't report to the police and file a case of theft ??

you can try, but you generally get laughed out of the police station, apparently you let them into your house.
Two years ago I had a domestic take me to the CCMA, apparently being rude, not doing your job and ignoring the warnings is not a right to fire. I actually won and still had to pay R750 for the month of lost work sigh.
Been using Sweepsouth on and off since, it's nice to not have to worry and the house just gets cleaned, they don't moan, they don't drink all your coffee, milk, sugar or tea, they don't eat an entire loaf of bread, things don't go missing.

I had a call from an incredibly awesome woman from the CCMA today called Martha. I was wrong in my calculation of payment/settlement. I signed the document and paid the amount of R2240 on top of what i paid already. Broke by now but I also paid for my x domestic's trip to the CCMA as it was my mistake and lunch. It was a breakdown of trust and a pity that she threatened me otherwise i would have paid the bonus as well. Pilferarge is not on. I am privileged and thus I give and want justice for the poor.

Does anybody know how many hours constitutes a full day and how many half day? Had my domestic tell me today half day is 8:00 to 12:00. She works 8:00 to 2:00 and gets R200 per day.

Not that I'm haggling about money. She was getting R230 but today opted to drop her salary to R200 in return for not cleaning upstairs and leaving at 2:00. Refused point blank to stay later.

The decision came about when I asked why the house is filthy. As far as I knew we were getting a long fine, she enjoyed her job, I like her. How wrong I was.

It came as a HUGE surprise to me how resentful she is. She's clearly been stewing about several things and loathes coming to work . We agreed on the compromise mentioned above.

Now I'm stewing  if I don't get over it I might ask her to leave anyway.

Going down to that from R230 because she doesn't want to clean upstairs....odd?

Quite low actually.

Imagine going to work and telling your boss that you don’t feel like doing what you were hired for anymore, so you are changing your duties, responsibilities, hours, role and T&Cs and he can like it or lump it.

Madness. You hired her to do a job. She doesn’t want to do it. Get her to fsck.

Is that part of the responsibilities?

One of the Indian guys working for us in Angola was shagging the maid he hired to "clean". Daily.

We kindof knew, but it came to head when her boyfriend pitched up with an AK-47 one day

It's disappointing actually. She's a really nice lady and I thought she liked working here. Everyone has their off days which is acceptable and she's never been micro managed. If the house is done she leaves early, no problem.

The thing that got to me was how resentful she is. I can't think of another word to describe it.

You're right @Spizz the foundation of our working relationship has collapsed.

Just loathe to look for a new employee and way too lazy to do my own cleaning :)

Make sure you have a contract. It should be clear in there what you guys decided on. Then there is no argument.
If the contract says she needs to work 8 hours for X pay then she can't leave earlier.

Alternatively you can get a cleaning service for less. You can tip extra if you want to.

Cleaning lady comes in at 7:30 and leaves 14:00 and gets a short lunch break. So that is R180 for 6 hours.

Also be realistic. What all does she need to do in the time , and is there enough time.

Here's the problem - we don't have a contract - my negligence :(

She's been with us for years and the deal just went from casual to regular. It seems odd to now ask her to sign a contract, but you're correct I'm up the creek if she chooses to leave.

Would love to use a cleaning service but I'm nervous about allowing strangers into the house.

They seem to be very professional. I work from home so it is not a big issue for me. It is also the same lady every week unless there is an issue.

That sounds good, especially if you're home.

Will start looking around locally and in the meantime, after yesterday's conversation I'll ask her to sign a basic contract.

I'm in CPT Northern suburbs and we use care in cleaning. They charge R330 for a 3 bedroom house (+-160sqm). A team of them pitches up and they are done in an hour leaving everything sparkling. Worth it for us.
