Leaving Afrihost. Where did everyone else go?

Left mweb for Plugg - happy until the star rating system got ridiculous - happy with Vox for the past 4 months

Line has always been with Telkom though

Thanks all. I have cancelled my account with Afrihost and will be signing up with webafrica business data at the end of the month. Keeping my line with Afrihost coz can't be bothered to change that.

Chevron I read your thread on webafrica and am convinced. Thanks for updating that thread. Tried the 1 gig free account and realised just how cramp Afrihost has become!

From webafrica:

Continuous excessive usage of a service may result in termination of the Business Uncapped ADSL account.

Do you seriously want that?

I'm looking at capped WA accounts and they're pretty pricy compared to Afrihost - at least for streaming.

Any international streaming is a problem on Afrihost business. Whther it be Netflix, Twitch or Youtube vids that aren't locally cached.
Do you have a Afrihost account to back up your statement? I'm on Afrihost business and I have zero problems streaming Netflix or Youtube.

Business Uncapped accounts are great for streaming and everything else you can throw at them ;)

Well besides a very good friend I have that couldn't do anything Twitch related on the account, you can check the Afrihost thread for many more cases. I wouldn't make a statement like that if it was only 1 or 2 people.

Afrihost international streaming is poor compared to WA. Capped AH is alright and three steps up from uncapped, but on esp single stream traffic WA is much, much better.

In my experience, having used AH capped for about a year, twitch/youtube steams fine at 720p, anything higher becomes laggy with plenty load times to catch up. I only play Dota 2 when it comes to online gaming, which is mostly fine, but pings tend to jump around 7-8pm from around 60ms to anything ranging from 300-600ms, sometimes even 1000ms, that is when I switch to my plugg account and everything returns to normal. So it's safe to say it's AH/MTN related, am hopeful that they get around to fixing it eventually.

PS....running 10mb line

What line speed and what quality does Netflix stream at?

10mb and to be honest I don't know what quality it streams at. All I know is it buffers at the start and doesn't buffer again until the next episode/movie/documentary.

I have had enough of Afrihost now. They used to be a brilliant transparent provider but no more. Lies lies lies. I am lucky to get 10% of my bandwidth during the day.

I would like to know where people have moved to and what their experience is so far. I would like uncapped 4meg.

Thanks!

Really sorry to see that there is a whole thread about leaving us.

I don't believe we have been dishonest or not transparent about changes we're testing out on our network. I have posted about this on the Uncapped thread, but you are always welcome to PM me if you want more information or whatever insight I can provide in terms of what we are trying to achieve.

Our aim with the tests we are running is to see if we can provide a better overall Uncapped experience with the resources we have, that is consistent and sustainable.

I understand if you have made up your mind to leave us, but I would still love to get your feedback via PM.
