LEaving for OZ

You can get all the skilled people you want, but with the global economy we currently live in skills in one part of the world benefit people all over the world anyway.... so no biggie.

Yes, SA is very 'sought-after' with unskilled people that are desparate :p

:D

Tell that to Eskom! :D

There's always home (US) or my second home (UK) but if I wanted to try someplace new I'd probably head towards the Caribbean.

I know the Carribean is a large area but surprises me what you read about crime in Jamaica too.

PS Stoked to hear you have lived in this country for a decade out of choice.

Saffer - its easier to say and quicker to type.

Its just a shortened version.

Exactly. LancelotSA you have too many sinister thoughts going through your 'positive' mind :D

Nah, tell us...

Well writing the original word would definitely get me a ban on this forum!
But drop the "s" and substitute it with another one!

Please Milano. Safrican would be just as easy to say according to your logic. I was overseas in 2002 and I can tell you for a fact what everyone's story was relating to the origins of the word Saffir.

Tell me how you think it was formed then?

LOL, yeah right Lancelot... So, is the word "bigger" also not PC correct, cause "we all know where that word origniated from"?

Still awaiting your factual explanation of the origins..... you appear to have been present when it was first used....

Hey, you are the one stating the "facts"...so, show some evidence to support this "fact"?

Already provided by Boodles

Hmmm, would think then that Safs would be even easier to say and write... wonder why bother with the extra "-fer" part on the end.... or in try Aussie style Saffies would have made more sense as in Warney, Smithy....

Please it is so obvious....

Well then if it is so obvious why is it no spelled saffir? You are so off the track with this one.

Does that mean you dont have any evidence to support this "fact" and it is merely based on the fact that it rhymes?

It is often not spelt but said so spelling is something only done infrequently. Even then it is not going to be found in a dictionary so the user would spell it as he thinks. Ask an Aussie to spell the original word and see how they spell it.

Have you lived in the UK with a house full of Aussie house mates? Believe they are under no illusions where it comes from and what it means.
