LED vs Plasma

i dont think it was ever about brightness, more about image retention i think
while some say its not necessary, i did it for piece of mind

heres the link of one of them

It was also about brightness. Plasmas are said to get duller with time. Burning them in may not be a bright idea. Pardon the pun.

I don't see usually see any burn in when my 2006 plasma is ON playing anything, unless the screen is ON and there is no picture, I can see a faint image of the DSTV banner - but not always and when it's there it's very faint. I don't really see a need for burn in, as my old plasma has no visible retention when viewing anything beyond a black screen.

If the manufacturer does not recommend it, I would not do it.

Just to recap:

two traditional problems with plasma:

Burn in. From 2006 till now this is not a problem for me as I don't see any when playing any movie or watching TV.
Brightness decline. I don't see this. Although I've been running on ECO 2 mode, the set is still bright in this mode, even in daytime.

Space_Chief - You might wanna differentiate between "burn-in" and "break-in" there. I know what you mean though.

Space_Chief - Aging the pixels to prevent IR.

I was commenting on the fact that you used break and burn interchangeably, when they're entirely different things.

Note that "LED" is a misnomer. The backlight is an LED backlight providing a better gamut / contrast, but it's still LCD.

Anyone with the conformity specification as to what a LED is? NRCS made a supplier relabel all their inbound stock as LCD as it did not meet the specification to be called a LED.

Can you please post links to substantiate this? From my own knowledge, that is a complete fallacy. Seeing as plasma's are not known for being "bright" (as opposed to LCD's/LED's who entice viewers with "brightness" over PQ).
