Leopard Tweaking - Terminal Codes

Thanks bwana,

Some of these work in tiger too - the "killall" statements especially ;)

Not long before I have my new notebook. I haven't decided which one though - head says MacBook Pro, wallet says MacBook. I have checked out the retail stores though - there's one just around the block from my hotel - just 11 more days :D

Will you be installong on your ppc mini? I've installed leopard on three machines so far... two intels and the missus' G4 small iBook and she's already commented its faster.

BTW. Where are you staying?

Naah, not now. I figure I have much to learn from Tiger still. Maybe after using Leopard for a while on the MacBook, I'll be wanting to upgrade the Mini, but probably not. The Mini will most likely become a parental unit soon enough :)

I live in London but I'm going to the U.S. next week. Will be staying in Cambridge, Boston for a few days, walking distance from the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall. Although I'm tempted to wait until I get to New York and go to the one on 5th Ave (there's a picture of it on www.apple.com/retail) simply because it's such an impressive looking entrance. But I don't want to take chances with stock - rather buy it earlier.

Just had a look and if you bought it from amazon and had it shipped you'd save a few hundred $'s as compared to the NY price thanks to the sales tax laws.

Not sure what the tax situation is like in Mass but it might be worth investigating. I buy almost all of my apple stuff that way. :)

Can you explain to me how it works? I'm not familiar with the tax/rebate business.

I'm not sure I want something shipped to an address where I'm only going to be for a few days - if it doesn't get there on the right time I'm screwed. If I order it from the U.S. and have it delivered here they slap customs on in anyway.

The US has something called the Internet Tax Freedom Act which means should the seller not have a brick and mortar shop in the state where the product is being delivered no tax needs to be paid. As long as you buy from the actual amazon.com store and not a reseller you should be fine for most states. :)

As for delivery there pretty reliable - you also should be able to cancel the order at any time without a charge so if it looked like it wasnt going to arrive on time you can just take a stroll to the Apple store. According to [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MA896LL-Notebook-SuperDrive/dp/B000R7Z2YU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1195428014&sr=8-2"]this produce page[/ame] you'd get this model delivered by Wed with free shipping. Looks like you'd also be eligible for a $150 rebate.

That sounds cool! Only one problem left - above model (and everything on Amazon I could find) still ships with Tiger. Oh well...

It should be eligible for a free upgrade.
