Hi all,

can someone please point out which model it is that does this?

and also what is it like?

I have the 42LW4500 and it does this conversion. It works best on high quality movies (720p and above). It basically adds depth to the movie you are watching. You won't see objects being thrown towards you like in the cinema but it makes watching a movie so much more realistic. I have watched Transformers 2 (1080p) like this and my mind was blown.

thanks guys.

need to replace my PS42C430, so will either go for the PS43D490

or else this, but will go check it out.

Was on special at Game for R4,999. Since your PS42C430 was so good, I'd recommend it on the basis you can save quite a bit. Price for price, you're getting 3D, 3" bigger, much better colours/contrast/blacks, than a 40" LCD non 3D.

The whole LW series or higher will do it.

I have the LG 47LW6510 , It also has force 3D really really good, It was going for R13k in December at Dion wired. Not sure whats the price now.

Cheers

47LW6510 for 13k? That's a FREAKING good price. I paid R12.5k for the 42" 6510 a couple weeks ago, after negotiating a discount from 14k.

Correct. That is the 47" version.

I viewed both this TV and the equivalent Samsung (I can't remember the model number) side-by-side and the picture quality of the LG was better.

Was the Samsung a 3D LED backlit LCD (starts at D6000)? Because they're quite a bit more than the LG ones. The equivalently priced ones seem to be xxD5500 non 3D.

Also I take it you tested in a mass mart, brightly-lit environment. In defence of Samsung, you wouldn't have been able to tell LG's poor black level performance under those conditions. Testing in a room suited to HT (dim) could have proven otherwise. Generally contrast (deepest black vs brightest white) plays the biggest role in determining PQ. Samsung/Sony have better blacks.

Maybe best bang for todays buck - what about future proofing PP? Also what price for 2D to 3D upscaling if thats what you're requirement is as stated.

PS51D550 does 2D to 3D.

So future proofing in what sense? I think the size difference is as future proof as it gets. ;)

get the LG. its good!
the samsung has active glasses.. they those bulky ones..
the Lg has "passive" glasses.. just like at the movies..

What about the disadvantages?
What disadvantages? List them please!

Here is a good feedback post for anyone considering plasma over LED
