If you go to the same store you got it from, I think you can. I have had a new one printed at a service center though so they definitely can do it there.

legally, they are supposed to be able to do this. In practice...depends who's willing to help at the store. Good luck.
 
Why do you need proof of purchase?

I have had a few phones repaired under warranty and all were bought 2hnd with no pop and no pop was requested, they just looked up the serial number/IMEI on the system.

I needed it when taking my phone in to one of the LG repair guys.
 
I'll need it to register the device on LG's site and don't I need POP to take it into smart labs. The device is still working just prepping for the worst.
 
So my G4 serial 506 went into bootloop last month. I was a bit weary since purchased it a year ago from the orangestore but i called them up for the warrantly return. Happily everything went smoothly as the arranged for pick-up at their cost, the device was gone for about 3 weeks but thankfully returned last week with a brand new 608 series mainboard installed.

I couldn't find one online in SA, so imported one on Aliexpress - cost $8 incl shipping - should be here next week - will see how well it does

You could probably find them somewhere in SA, but I just gave up and often import stuff from AliX - Will post my evaluation here :)

And finally, my 509 G4 bootlooped this evening. I was so gatvol of my poor battery life in MM, that I had downgraded back LP 10e ZA earlier this evening. Backed everything up, downgraded and finished restoring. Was busy slowly opening every app, to "wake it up" so to speak and all of sudden it froze. Pulled battery. Bootloop. Ironically, absolutely everything is backed up on the SD. Will go drop the wretched thing off tomorrow for repair.
 
Does the bootloop issue rear its head out of the blue, phone fine then the next minute completely knackered? That's quite a bleak situation if none of your data is backed up.

exactly that! Thanks LG :whistle: Never, ever again (and not only because of a poor build problem that they refuse to fix UNTIL your phone fks out), but also because it's been the poorest battery life Android device I've ever had. According to quite a few reports, once LG have replaced whatever after bootloop, the phone is faster and better performing than ever, let's hope that's the case with mine.
Am keeping an eye out for an S7/S7 Edge regardless.
 
I've recently, at times noticed higher battery consumption on my G4 and when checked with MPE (see below), I can see that the CPU seems to be doing a lot of 'work', even after I have closed all open apps.
When I then restart the phone, all is fine again....

Any of the clever okes here know what it can be or how to test if an app is chewing away? I've looked at the main battery consumers, but it's mostly the screen. How do I find out which app is making the CPU run like that when phone is basically 'at rest' with screen off?

I dropped off my G4 at the repair center this morning and by 14h30 I had bought a new S7. Adios LG!
 
So I ended up booking my G4 in for a warranty repair for the screen (the image retention issue) at the Montague Gardens SmartLab. This was on 4 October. On explaining the image retention issue the lady looked quite puzzled but nonetheless wrote down what I had said word-for-word.

Fast forward 6 days later and voila!
I didn't get a screen replacement, no... but I do have a new main board! :D :confused:

Obviously the image retention issue is still here although I'm not going to complain about a potentially bootloop-prone main board being replaced (even though it wasn't the issue I had). Serial number starts with 608 so a very recently produced mainboard.

Initial impressions of the replacement board in the phone indicates faster performance and slightly better battery drain in the few hours I've used it. Now to figure out whether it's worth the schlep to get the screen replaced :whistle:
