I phoned LG and asked them where I can take my phone in. They said either drive to PTA or take it to any other mobile service provider if my current one won't fix it
Smartlab will collect from you repair and courier back for R200, just drop them an email and request it.

I think that the original LGG4 was an H815.
The LG, now it's been fixed by Smartlab, reads as an H815P.
GSMArena says H815P is only for South Africa and LATAM (South America)
Takealot are also only selling H815P. Methinks LG did this to differentiate between the maybe problem phones (H815) and phones that have no problem whatsoever (H815P).

Local units have always been H815Ps. I remember from my days of being hopeful for a bootloader unlock, just after launch.

I've been trying to reach smartlab for 2 days. Anyone know if they're closed or something?

Did you try calling this number?
For any repair enquires or quotes please email us on info@smartlab.co.za or call us on 0871352000 and we will get back to you ASAP.

Yeah I did. Was on the phone for 27 min this morning waiting. Eventually gave up when I had to leave my desk. And I sent them a mail yesterday morning as well. No reply

So up till now has there been no working root for our G's and still isn't one?

The thread was updated. The dream is dead. FML

If you have H815P you can only get root on Lollipop 5.0. The 10e build if memory serves. That's about it. No TWRP/CWM

Sad indeed.

But to be honest, i've been happy with my experience on my G4 thus far (10 months).

the only "mods" i made... was switch to ASAP launcher and I'm using AdClear

its been smooth so far, battery life has been good and only really bad if i play games.

the phone was a big jump up from a galaxy s4 mini, that i modded 71 ways from sunday with root, roms, xposed etc.

tbh, i'm not really missing all that mess on the G4 - the experience has been solid.

I honestly feel like in the last year there has been no need to root. not because my phone is that good, I mean the G$ is amazing, but there are no root only tools that I really miss.

want to remove adds? use lucky patcher.
its more a case that app designers have come along a lot more and can now do more without needing to root.

What is ad clear and lucky patcher?

Also not overly worried about no root anymore but ad blocking is still the definitive outstanding reason for me.

Lucky patcher is an app that makes you remove ads by rebuilding the apk
