Can someone tell me why are the LG Oled 2017 so expensive compare to overseas
where the prices are $1500 & $2000 for B7 & C7 models. i'm looking at getting oled i
feel stores are coming up with there own markups and ripping people off.

I think they waiting on the 8 series to land. There were specials on these not too long ago but I reckon some better deals to be had soon when they need to clear out old stock. But yes 70k for a b7 is madness ... I too am in the market now for an Oled.

I've had mine for about 2 years and very happy. The Smart TV functions are a bit slow but don't use it anyway.

Hi, looking to buy this model LG 55UJ630V. What's your experience with it? An also, where did you get it and for how much?
Will be using it mostly for youtube and netflix, and playing some stuff off a harddrive, either plugged in or on the network.
Which remote did it come with? Have you been able to straem or control from a phone?

If you can extend your budget a bit, rather get the SJ800 for R15,000.

https://www.stax.co.za/products/lg-55sj800-55-suhd-led-smart-tv

I have the 65" SJ850 and it's pretty much faultless.

Blacks could be a bit better, but you're only going to get better blacks from a qDot or OLED which is a lot more moola.

What swayed me towards LG was Dolby Vision. Once you start watching in DV, HDR10 looks a bit bland in comparison...

But they already use nano crystals (quantum dot) in that TV.

Careful, they use nano cell, which enhances the viewing angle. Other than that, not much is actually known about nano cell apart from the fact that it seems to be LG marketing speak for 1nm crystals.

Nano crystal = quantum dot != nano cell.

The devil is in the marketing speak.

It basically comes down to this - Samsung LCD panels offer better blacks but poorer viewing angles. LG LCD panels offer better viewing angles but poorer blacks.

Thanks, I always wondered why their black levels were rated poorly compared to similar TVs by Samsung.

Is HDR off by default on the LG? I havent really played much with the picture setting. What would you guys suggest the best settings are for the 55UJ630?

Don't think so, I think it's set to HDR Effect or some such. That setting that gives an HDR effect irrespective of whether the source is HDR or not.

But you can specify your HDR preferences per input from the display settings...

Hmm, I just saw this:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/kevinm...p-how-to-enable-hdr-on-an-lg-tv/#5b5c1ebf6786

HDR increases both brightness and the range of colors that are shown on TV screens. Images with HDR look more natural because of the wider color gamut while the increase in brightness causes colors to pop off the screen. The results can be spectacular when done well and viewed on a quality TV.

If you’re watching HDR content on an LG TV, however, you may not be seeing the HDR effects. LG provides a setting that allows users to determine whether or not the HDMI inputs on their screen will accept HDR’s wider color range. The setting is a toggle that switches HDR’s color range On or Off. Each HDMI input has its own toggle, and the default is set to Off. If you don’t turn it on, you may be feeding HDR content to your TV, but HDR’s enhanced range of colors is not being shown on the screen.

Fortunately, it’s easy to solve this problem. Here’s how to do it.

Enter Settings (long press the button with the gear icon on the lower right of the remote).
Click General (the button with the gear and wrench).
Scroll down to the bottom and click HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color.
Switch the port or ports you’re using for HDR input to On.

You’ll see that LG says some input devices may not work with Deep Color set to On. I’ve not found that to be the case for any of the input devices I’ve tested, but if you have a problem, switch the HDMI port back to Off and make sure all of your HDR content routes through a device that can handle HDR, and is connected to the HDMI port with Deep Color switched to On.

How do you activate this?

Did you know that your LG ULTRA HD TV can upscale even lower-resolution video signals to near-4K quality? And that you can make different picture settings work better for different types of entertainment, as well as control various lighting environments? It supposedly somewhere under PIcture Settings, but I cant find it.

In the specific hdmi input you need to set it to HDR effect, or something like that. Can't check now cos I'm not home...

They are off by default, you need to go into the HDMI settings and enable there (newish lgs)

Buy your LG TV from a computer store, prices much much cheaper then retail stores.. My insurance company got me replacement LG 65" 4K TV at around R15000 cheaper than what dion wired, makro had it selling for...

I will check for my invoice and get the name of the company that got my TV.. Warranty is through local LG support

Name of the computer store: KolComputers
Email: admin@kolcomputers.co.za

Get a quote from them for that OLED LG TV and compare prices

Had a weird issue with my B7 last night. Was watching Netflix and skipped forward a bit in the show and when it resumed my center audio channel was missing (so I couldn't hear any of the dialogue). Thought something bugged out with ARC to my receiver but even after unplugging the receiver and going directly through the internal speaker the same thing happened. It was happening on all the internal apps that support multi-channel audio, then suddenly after about 20 minutes it just magically came back during playback.

Very odd issue indeed. Hope it isn't a recurring thing because intermittent issues like this really hard to try and reproduce.

Happens to me sometimes, but rarely. Not just apps, but any audio source (HDMI incl.) using ARC. Except with me it's not just the centre channel, all sound seems to go only to the left channel.

A quick restart of the set usually sorts it out. I think there's an issue on WebOS with the HDMI handshake "de-syncing", and a restart forces the handshake process to start from scratch. Not really sure though...
