Lightroom alternatives?

Lol, I am considering it now, but I don't need to 'enhance' my work flow at this time. I mostly only use Designer.
Gonna give it a few weeks / let V2 receive a few updates and then upgrade but will probably just buy the discounted licence in the meantime. I don't see any upgrade options so assuming there's just the option to buy a V2 licence and it costs the same whether you have V1 or not.

If the discount is still up by the end of the month, then I will purchase an Affinity V2 Universal License. I recently upgraded some of my product suites, and I don’t want to keep up with Joneses unless it is necessitated. Need to buy what I need for which is budgeted for.

There is no upgrade option, they explained in their FAQ,

Do you offer upgrade pricing?

No, as many of our sales are made through third party App Stores we do not have a mechanism to offer upgrade pricing. This was why we decided to offer such a large launch discount—to give users an opportunity to upgrade at an incredible price.

V1 is now EoL, though license owners can use it for as long as they wish,

What does the launch of V2 mean for existing users? Do I have to upgrade?

Upgrading is completely optional and, if you wish, you can continue to use the original apps for as long as you like. Please bear in mind that V1 will no longer receive any updates.

I bought my licenses from the Microsoft Store, but I see V2 must be purchased from Serif's online store.

Ah ok cool thx. Don't really mind - amazing value for money either way. /off to get Photo V2.

I've downloaded the photo trial and they still insist on you saving (not exporting) in their own afphoto format so that's strike one against upgrading.

I need to buy Publisher so I'll probably do that while the sale is on, or wait until BF.

Also no more updates to V1 so will probably update Photo at minimum.
From what I have found reading reviews a few months back(though I hope I'm not confusing this with something else), this is one pretty significant issue with Affinity.
The price is cheap but once they release a new version the old one gets dumped, virtually no updates even for bugs so you are forced to update, some said it's like a subscription but just packaged differently. And on Windows at least new versions like V2 don't update the old version it just installs a whole new installation and moving your data/catalogue to the new install isn't so easy.

This is the first time they've released a new version so I dunno where you get that. V1 has had constant updates without any issues.

V1 is stable, never had issues with it, but it does come short in some departments. I would love to see Serif with native third-party extension support for versatility.

I can't complain about Photo and Designer, it does everything I need for my requirements. It is just that I need to do some things outside their ecosystem.

Thats more than what I paid on Black Friday previously. Nope. Will wait for a proper discount.

Next year this time 60% off, limited-time offer*

*Sales forecasts pending.

Just for notice, Serif sales promotions usually last for a long time. I think their last Black Friday listed price lasted for around 90 days.

I might have mistaken it with another piece of software but it was quite a convincing argument to avoid them, is there anything similar out there that's multi platform?
I'm sure it was Affinity though.

Until version 3...

There is an odd chance that they may go with subscriptions, but I think they will keep a base perceptual "universal license" and then move into subscription-based value add, and they might start this with V2 already. It makes business sense. Not everyone needs value add, they keep their base, and provide services to their more advanced users.

Then there is also the possibility that they can introduce a cloud-based version, access anywhere all you need is a browser.

They literally announced the existence of V2 a few hours ago so there's no way you read anything like that weeks or months ago. Probably something else.

Yap, it's been a big let down. Oh well, the search continues.

I wouldn’t say it is a let-down, but it is underwhelming. They will have loads of ‘influencers’ and diehards go cray over this, telling everyone they have ‘upgraded’ to V2.

No hate on influencers, since I am also one, kind off, but brands have become obsessed with paid for influencing and hype. Also, nothing wrong with the marketing strategy, it is just that it isn't based on real product and use experiences. Regardless, a TikTok can make you millions.
