I can't say enough good things about PopOS, it's really surprised me in being one of the first Linux desktop experiences to be really problem free and very easy to get going.

You can try many linux distributions here: https://distrotest.net
No installation, everything runs in your browser. A bit slow, but good enough to get the idea of what it looks like.

Mint, PopOS, Elementary - all great beginner distros.

Then go for ARCH ( preferable Manjaro )
