We have a bunch of ADSL lines running on Afrihost that we use for business purposes.

Over weekends the line becomes nearly unusably slow, more or less 3-4 times slower than during weekdays.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the line shaping being lifted by Afrihost.

But is our massive speed decrease more likely to be the cause of contention at Afrihost, or on the physical Telkom lines?

We tried upgrading some our Telkom lines to business lines but we still had the same problem on Weekends.

Is there an ADSL account available out there that will not slow down for business use when shaping is lifted over weekends and after-hours?

Suggestions?

Do traceroutes and check where your pings are increasing,if the first hop has massive delays you're likely contended

high utilization would usually affect pings to later hops, first hop is esr aftet the exchange which should be max speed unless congested :-)

Or someone in the company is using the "quiet" bandwidth for illegal downloads.

We can rule this possibility out, no-one has access to those ADSL lines, our software is programmed to utilize the ADSL lines without them being the PC's gateways.

If your business is in a residential area I'd say it's exchange congestion. Weekends everyone is at home.
