So with networking I dont know anything. We have 2 pc's in one office. One new, one older. Both are connected to the same router via the lan cable so both have internet access via the same router to modem.

Now why we want the 2 to be "linked", is just for pastel evolution (version 6.00.45) to be linked with the other pc. The pc tech guy keep telling me we need some equipment (hardware) for that to work, and he will order it. And thats going for more than a month now.

But that doesn't make sence, because the 2 pc's is already connected.

What can I do to make pastel to be linked to each other? (pastel is installed on both)

The router should be able to double as a switch meaning you already have a network.

Pervasive for work groups and use one of the machines as the "server" (the place the database is stored).

Oh and while I'm at it, we dont have a network printer, the printer is connected to the newer pc via usb. How can I "send" documents to print to that printer?
And lastly, how do I configure the 2 pc's so that I can send documents between the 2?

It would help if you tell us which version of Windows you are using... but I assume that it is XP on both?

The PCs are already linked... the Pastel guy just has to install the software on both and set one up as the server and the other as a workstation.

Sharing the Printer is easy... you just go into the Printer Settings and share the printer on the network, then you go to the client PC and add a new network printer and wait for it to find the network printer.

Moving Files is also easy. Start Windows Explorer... click on My Network Places and navigate to the Shared Documents Folder. Anything placed in that folder can be seen on the other computer.

Ag sorry Gary...
The "Client pc" run xp, and the newer one windows 7.
Both pc's have pastel already installed, cause we used the older pc before for everything. Then we bought the new pc and averything was installed on it to. Now we just want to link the 2 pastel's.

OK, so.... you will have a problem seeing the newer Windows 7 PC from the XP computer. It's not impossible, just a major headache to get it configured right. It is easier to drive everything from the newer computer as you can easily see the XP computer from there.

Agreed. Newer computer should be faster.

If you want to use the USB printer from the other PC you will need to share the printer on the host PC.
Once shared you'll need to connect to it from the other PC by going to start run the typing \\host IP or host name\printer name eg. \\192.168.0.1\hp laserjet 5500
The same applies for file sharing only that you'll need to share a folder and not the printer - accessing it will be that same.

Sorry I'm to lazy to explain in more detail but thats what google is for.

GL!

Pastel Evolution uses MSSQL Server. If you have Pastel Evolution installed on both PC's, you will need to locate the Pastel Evolution DB on the "Workstation" in Pastel Evolution by using the "Server" MSSQL name and SQL Authentication details. Let your IT Guy make sure that your SQL server is set up with TCP/IP and Named Pipes enabled as well as Local and Remote Access.
