Recently did a full fresh install of F17.
Changed theme a bit. I likey.

Compatibility mostly; LMDE is a hell of a different distro compared to normal Linux Mint. Once I have the complete hang of it or if an update breaks it then I'll look at 64bit edition

Simple answer: wine.
64bit version does not bode well when it gets to games and other advance windows apps.
You can have a 64bit install running 32bit wine. When you install wine, just export WINEARCH=32, then run winecfg. You will now run 32bit wine of 64bit linux. I had to do this to get Office 2010 to work properly.

Agreed. That is one thing that annoys me about wine.
No matter how many wine flags I try to set, 32 bit apps just won't install. I have however found light at the end of the tunnel by using PlayOnLinux, works pretty well. Office 2010 running smooth on my 64 bit machine now.

Completely basic since its a pretty fresh install but I do like it. Arch with xfce.

Still has all the "deafault" stuff, Task menus, panel above, conky, and Cairo dock.
In the dying years of KDE 3 we could tweak every single thing. If you can see it you can tweak it easily without knowing any scripting, and it lead to the most amazing desktops.
Themeing ie. in KDE has become a lot more complex (xml files, scripting and whatnot) and the next updated will in most likelihood break your themed desktop, Gnome 3.... eish.... Cinnamon is to young still and you can do only basic stuff, E17 is E17, not much to do there.
I'm so sad that I did not safe my desktop screenshots from years ago, those theme gurus were the masters!
If you nowadays want to really mod and theme you need openbox or fluxbox.
Maybe I have become lazy to spend a bit of time themeing, but there is very little in the way of themes that really hits home on our modern desktops. See this as a challenge and make me eat my words.
