i know its one digit, but they would through that at me as well....


but its fine, i'm done, non of my contracts will be renewed from here on out, vodacom obviously makes enough off other people, they dont need my bussiness

Wait until you hit the repair catch 22. This where they claim the phone repair is not covered by the warranty but to get the phone back you need to pay R75 (this was 2 years ago) quote rejection fee. BUT they can only assess once they open the phone to find the excuse to get you to pay for the repair.
Can't wait for my contract to end and switch to prepaid.

According to the tech report , they said that it was corrosion on the mother board. This was brought upon by liquid and this could have been done a while back already.

Corrosion can be due to the faulty manufacturing process (poor cleaning). It needs to be verified by independent sources. Water damage corrosion is different to the acid chloride used in production (or even battery leak). AFAIK, Vodacom repair procedure do not require to check it out.
 
either way, i know for a fact this phone has not been exposed to any of their suggestions, and i quote


POSSIBLE CAUSES ARE:
Exposure to steam ( phone likes to have a chill session in the sauna , to unwind from a day of CRAP signal)
Excessive humidity ( no durban?!? damn)
Rain, immersion in water, cold drinks, alcoholic beverages, chemical solutions ( my phone does enjoy some tequila once in a while)
Abnormal perspiration (WFT?)
Condensation when moving from an air-conditioned environment into a warmer, humid environment (cause i do this for fun....)

and is connected by headset, judging by the photo sent, it looks like the bottom corner...

either way, it seems vodacom rips..errr has enough clients, i wont be renewing any of my contract with them, they obviously dont need me as a client, and think everything in the world is perfect, and there is NO way , a phone could be faulty or there could be any damage from a poor manufacturing process, because OUT OF BOX failures, dont ever happen

As I wrote, it could be manufacturing fault and Vodacom procedure is not going deep to such level to establish cause of the corrosion. If there are more complaints on particular model and serial numbers range, it is probably the cause. Users only defense is to team together, publish details and request from the supplier to prove, it is not manufacturing fault. Onus is on their side.

I am not trying to defend Vodacom, but you had been warned that others are not better. In fact Vodacom service is the best in my opinion and warranty period is extended to two years. I was posting it not to fuel your screaming, but:
- let you do something from your side to get your case stronger,
- give Vodacom indication, they might be wrong in your case
 
Get a repair done from someone else and then claim the costs from the corporate thieves (Vodacom). That is the best solution. This water damage excuse is allowed to go on for to long. Why do they not manufacture phones that are not prone to "self destructive condensation" A lot of BS and this comes from an electronics technician. A few years ago I had a similar issue with a Nokia on MTN. The phone a P800 had weak reception, I handed it in for repairs. Then I got the message it had water damage, not repairable. Then I went to collect the phone and I had to pay them for doing nothing. When I wanted to switch on the phone it was dead, I changed battery and it was still dead. I then realized the phone was tampered with, maybe someone else's phone got repaired? I refused to leave, that was already past their closing time and I called for a manager who refused to see me. Then I made such a noise and stink that someone else eventually arrived and promised to look at the issue and restore the phone back to the condition it was when I handed it in. A few days later the original tech working on the phone left the company and the phone went AWOL. I called and spoke to someone in the workshop and he was kind enough to locate the phone and repair it. So eventually I got the phone back in a full working condition. I 100% believe this is a huge spares availability scam by telling people to pay for a useless "water damaged" phone and the b@stards end up with a whole lot of free spares or a bonus payment on top of it as most people will just not pay the "service" fee.

Had the same excuse for my E72 that stopped working 2-odd years ago. Dropped it in my notebook and took one of my other phones. Some time later in Kuwait my E6 stopped working. Went to the shop next to the hotel. For less than US$2 both were fixed.
 
Here's the thing, once I get a new phone I generally use my older phones for all those dodge situations.
I have an old iPhone 3g which I take in to the bathroom, leave it there. Run a full steamy shower, lean out the shower to change the music on it with a wet hand. Every day it gets this abuse and its still working perfectly. It gets left by the pool, in the sun even until the screen switches off , always comes right once its cooled off.

I have a nokia n95 that gets strapped to the bicycle and ridden through any weather, it gets beaten up/sweated on in my pocket at the gym. Works perfectly..

My iPhone 4 which failed after 4 days of use( speaker stopped working) when I walked into the vodacentre outlet was declared water damage with just a glance over by the techy,he didn't even know where the external litmus papers were on the phone. I had to show him and then make him write down on the book in slip that they were NOT red, only then did my phone go off and finally get replaced..

So yea, I don't buy this water damage BS, it does certainly seem to me to be the automatic answer from vodacom.
