List of congested exchanges?

I am on the same exchange as you Bloodstain. I stay in La Rochelle (a few hundred metres from the exchange) and had a techie that lives in the area come out when I first logged the fault. He says he is having the same issue, a network fault reference has been opened, but nobody knows when it will be fixed. It seems to be some of the DSLAMS only on the exchange though as my parents an brother are on the same exchange and dont have the issues I am having.

Also on the same exchange as bloodstain and Frequency43, I never had any speed or latency issues until I upgraded from 384k to 1mb. My attenuation and SNR are all in the excellent category and I have no speed issues during peak times (8am-5pm) but after that I might as well turn my pc off as its damn near impossible to even access Google let alone play on line with a ping of 999 to a local server.

Oh well guess there is not much any one can do other than log a fault with telscum and pray.

It is quite scary actually, this is not at all a new problem. I first applied for ADSL in Oct. 2010 and from then they have been saying that there is an issue with the local exchange (I live in La Rochelle as well). Initially there were just plainly not enough ports available but no one seems to actually give enough of a crap to expand the infrastructure. Which is now of course a serious problem as more and more people are looking to get ADSL. I have actually decided to scrap my ADSL completely and go the MTN 3G route, purely based on reliability and performance. The service is much better too, you ACTUALLY speak to people with common sense and not just the ability to read off of a script.

How have the Bothasig guys found the exchange lately? seems to me its kind of like a yoyo at the moment. Seems to be ok until about 9Pm/ 10PM and then the latency increases and speed drops.

Annoying

Hi I joined as I was directed by a member at PESza who saw my post about connectivity.

I am relieved and mortified that I am not the only one experienceing this. I live in Gatesville, Athlone and since the 11 november my 4mbps ADSL capped speeds have dropped from a consistent 60-80ms Ping and 3-3.8mbps download speed to anything from 60-1200ms ping and download speeds as slow as 0.1mbps consistently

I have phoned Telkom daily, I have incident numbers, Escalation numbers on top of escalation numbers and even been told to meet the Technician whom I take off work to meet and just doesnt pitch. Call centre people dont care they make as if its a big inconvenience no matter that my R900 pm that goes to their salaries is what is keeping them there. I am not a person that gives up but just dont know what to do anymore. As is internet is useless to me and I am better off browsing on my blackberry. Is there nothing we can do?

I was surprised, I could actually play internationally till late last night(00:00) without having issues like the previous nights, I was getting around 200-300ms to Europe.
I didn't check the download speed though.

Rondebosch has become completely unusable. I can barely load web pages... :(

Yep, Rondebosch has its fair share of problems...it seemed to be working well for me for about 3 weeks but now its once again become unusable between 8-11pm for me..

Guys, I am looking for a few guinea pigs in the La Rochelle / Stellenberg / Blomtuin ... Pretty much anyone that is having issues on Bellville North exchange. About 5 to 10 people should be ample.
Basically I am looking for a list of Telkom numbers (obviously only ones with ADSL service on, which is giving issues) to give to contact i have in Telkom. He wants to test a couple of things and compare a few ADDL lines. Specifically for this issue of high latency etc. at Bellville North.

Any takers? PM me for more info!

Ok so I'm with afrihost and on the Internet solutions backbone. Telkom sent me a test account and my speeds were magnificent. 14ms ping consistently all day yesterday till 3am in the morning. Is my problem being on the Internet Solutions backbone?

I live in Stellenberg. Il send you my number so you guy's can test it. I've been unable to use my line today, and most of the evening's of the week it's unusealbe. I do hope it get's fixed soon :/

Bothasig has been beter again - maybe because it`s the end of the month and everyone is capped? :)

Keep in mind it is possible that ADSL users are now sharing bandwidth with 8ta users. So if you had a bad exchange and it recently got a lot worse it is probably because 8ta has joined the circus.

I cant speak for all exchanges, but I know about bothasig

8ta and ADSL are two totally separate devils. One will not effect the other. You can have 1000ms ping on ADSL and your 8ta connection will be fine.

Yeah I don't see how a 8ta tower will affect a DSLAM, when they are not even the same thing at all and have different uplinks.

Okay got a Telkom account and contrary to what I thought being on the Telkom backbone or the Afrihost one makes no difference...this is makin me depressed :(

Bothasig response times looking good the last couple of days with (+-50ms local) but still around 10% packet loss.

Oh really....

Was so excited about getting a neat little 4mbit Uncapped Line and now this.
BELLVILLE NORTH (WBLX03) Exchange and me are about to have some serious problems.
It is within walking distance and I can't play my WoW anyway.

Arg. Anyone know if anything is being done about this devil?
Is there a cause I can just in on?

From Telkom
"Congestion on the internet. ADSL is a best effort service. Throughput is not guaranteed"

Oh I'm sorry......it was my fault, I thought I was paying for a high quality service, didn't know it was a "best effort" type of thing. Very glad they don't run the hospitals now
