List of congested exchanges?

Johand, if you are experience high latency just after 5 / 6pm and minor timeouts then yes. It's probably related. It's not just Bothasig, there are a couple of other DSLAMS around the area that are impacted.

i.e. Pinging telkom.co.za and getting 500ms - 800ms response times....

Anyone else on the Bellville North (4) exchange having issues? Been experiencing the high latency in the evenings everyone else talked about in this thread for the past 2 weeks or so. Yesterday afternoon my line dropped out for about 10 mins; today again at about 14h00 and for good this time it seems as I'm still down - telkom is apparently attending...

Well where i stay there is so much copper theft i think we only have about ten lines syncing at any given time!
So i highly doubt i will ever see congestion,

Virt, I used to be on that exchange, if you look earlier in this thread, probably around page 1-5 somewhere, you will see I had the exact same problems, only earlier I already realized there is a problem trying to play games. My solution was to get a 2nd tellephone line, when I added ADSL on top of it, they connected the line to Bellville North 5 IMAX. Since the move I have had 0 problems. My old line that was on Bellville North 4 was canceled the moment I noticed my new line was working 100% fine when the old line was not.

Best move ever, even though I had a tiny bit more expensive account this month.

Thank you for the advice Tinuva. I'll give it another day or 2 but am also strongly considering going that way, ableit at a bit of a gamble as I'm not sure if they can 'guarantee' I'll be on the Bellville North 5 IMAX. However all things considered chances are 'quite likely' and it may just pay off. It's absolutely ridiculous the lengths we have to go to get stable broadband in this country.

Agreed. You can try get your current line moved over, but all attempts from my side trying that route was fruitless, which is when I gave in and just ordered the 2nd line to get it done and over with.

I'm also in Bellville North, Ridgeworth area.

On 1Mbps, getting 11ms pings any time of the day. How would I know which exchange I'm on?
Seems like there's other gius on my exchange with problems, yet I'm fine? A buddy in my complex also always get's his full 4096kbps.

I think there are a total of 8 or 9 DSLAMs in Bellville North. You will need someone with the correct access to Telkom's Uniweb interface to lookup your tellephone line to see on which DSLAM it is connected to.

I am also on Bellville North DSLAM 4. I have been having the same latency issues for the last few weeks. My line is rented through Mweb, so I have been chasing this with them. The latest info I have from Telkom is that they know about the issue and are "monitoring" it, but there is no estimate on when or how it will be fixed.

I'm going to downgrade my line to 1MB for now, but online gaming is not really an option at the moment.

Eish - I feel for you oaks

I was getting hopeful last night, it seemed stable at around 21:00 spiking between 11-60~ms locally, but after 22:00 it went to around 300~ms locally as per normal(Bothasig exchange). :(

Line downgraded to 1MB now, dont see the point of paying for a 4MB line with that kind of speed.

According to the http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/search/phone/ search i found my exchange.

BELLVILLE NORTH (WBLX03) Exchange

I've had internet for about 2 year's now and I've only had minor problems usually fixed with a simple router reset or port reset. About 3 week's ago, basically at the start of the month i started having loads of problems with my line. I switched from Afrihost 384 uncapped to Axxess 384 uncapped. Initially i thought that the switch in ISP was to blame but after having the same problems on my Telkom cap i came to the conclusion that it's not a problem that can be fixed on my side.

Obviously i'm being ****ed by telkom aswell. After about 6 in the evening's my line's speed diminishes, at around 8 it comes to a crawl, 800ms to anything local, games/voip(Teamspeak) you name it. Download speeds are about 0.16 kb/sec.

Anyone else on the same exchange and having the same problem? Im getting very annoyed.
