List of congested exchanges?

last night I ran speedtest, and from PE to CPT I'm getting 32 kbps down & 10 kpbs up with 75ms.

To the same server on pingtest I got 35.

Is that right for a 384 line?

Downloads can go upto 40kbyte/sec, however speedtest should report anything in the region of 300-315kbit/sec.
Your latency doesn't look bad at all, from PE to CPT, depending on your ISP, could be anything from 15-40ms. Since you are on 384, latency to the 1st hop usually is around 30-40ms already, so taking all that into account, 75ms sounds about right.

By the looks of it, your DSLAM is probably not congested.

Bothasig seems to be up to it's old tricks again, not as bad as it was but still.

After 7pm it goes from locally 8-12ms to 290-350ms.

Getting about 700ms in Stellenberg, Bellville. Download speeds seem to be dipping a bit too.

I came across this, someone else already probably has. South African Public Protector. I think as many of us as possible should at least try to lodge a complaint here. Who knows, maybe they give Telkom a bit of a shove.

OMG This is the same bull im getting. Im in edgemead. Been like this for months... Telkom has no answers to give other than "congestion".

Tommorrow i phone again. If nothing happens im going to try SilentCynic's idea

Edit** Download speed is almost always normal. But im not uncapped so i dont download. I play team fortress 2 and LoL, but not at 600+ ms. And these Pr!cks r really getting to me...

Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for?

I live in the Randpark Ridge area with a 4Mb Uncapped, and I am experiencing horrendously slow speeds.
Yet, a ping test would either return an acceptable 32ms or a "Request timed out" error.

This is with multiple ISP's with different backbones.

Does this mean I have a congested exchange?

well... I've had about enough of this now. I will be sending an email first thing tomorrow morning demanding that this be resolved, otherwise its gonna get nasty. What other choice do I have?

Im not a vindictive person but it would appear that telkom are way more interested in taking on even more ADSL subscribers than deal with the current network congestion.

I will keep all informed, but if someone in the meantime has some webspace/domain name I can use, that would be a good start.

enough is now enough

My problem have been resolved over night. I have no idea how or what. Been more than a week without problems. My call is still open with telkom.

Keep monitoring it a bit before closing the call. Congested exchanges are very moody :-) We had the problem some time ago in Rondebosch and it was up and down like a yo-yo. And not in a predictable fashion!

Hi All

I'm in Stellenberg, CT North, and my ping is also shocking, pressumeably congested Exchange.

So, the question is, is there anything I can do?
And, what are my alternatives?

Tough to kill Alliance on 1500ms WOW ping.

: Edit : I have an open call at Telkom for a week now, no repsonse.

I dont know anymore. After running traceroutes for a week finally proving to telkom that the Bellville north dslam 4 is congested they send a specialist to do *something* and they close my ticket. Kan .. nie... meer.. nie kaptein.

Hi

Stellenberg - Shocking pings - Congested exchange -

Had to hear my dad say blasphemous things tonight - slow emails... pfft... Try playing Dota dad.
Going back to 384kbps. :cry::cry:

I have a feeling things will have to get worse before they get any better.*
That is all. Thank you.

I’m on the Durbanville exchange. Not sure exactly. All I know is I’m connected to a Road/Mini DSLAM that runs to the exchange and not to a DSLAM in the exchange.:erm:

Everything is still running 100%. :) At exactly the same time my problem got sorted my friend's ADSL also got sorted. He Stays kind off far from me.

Yea from time to time, 300ms locally.

It's not as bad as it used to be so seeing some improvements.

some of the backhaul has been upgraded on SOME of the dslams but this will be an ongoing problem until the retards at head office figure out that the "international standards" and "design standards" that they implemented are NOT working.

it all comes down to how close your dslam is to peaking... aka flat lining. This is when you local ping goes to hell.
