List of congested exchanges?

Is it congestion?

I stay in that area and my 4mb line is pretty much dead. Managed to get pings of more than 1000ms today :(

I am not sure it is congestion. I have tried differnt times of the day as well as deep into the night and early hours. It is always slow. Surely it should speed up a bit when everyone else is asleep?

I have the same issue. Took me a few weeks to finally confirm a congested Dslam. In my case the dslam "flatlines" all the time. I guess all these "eat as much as you can" products are killing Telkom's ability to deliver a decent service.

right so you can add me to the list of congested exchanges... and my one mate in edgemead as well.

we both going through to the bothasig exchange (558) and its a total dog.

read this for more details

im gonna go nuts on these okes tomorrow... srsly...

My stats atm -

Download Speed: 160 kbps (20 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 424 kbps (53 KB/sec transfer rate)

You get used to it. My moments of uncontrollable rage are now interspersed with zen-like calm and resignation. :p

dude I think I can handle the slower speed... but 900ms latency to EU means I cant even have a game of HoN :erm:

which exchange are you on??

Durbanville, Vierlanden. Local pings in the 150+ range. Can't see it now as I have to use Neotel's speedtest. Speedtest.net doesn't even load...

Hi
I also used to have a problem with a congested exchange, mine was finally sorted out though. It took 5 months however, 4 of which was struggling to just to get Telkom to admit that there was a problem.
My advice would be to not even bother with their call center, they will not be able to help you. I had an open fault report with them for about 3 months, I called about once a week, and no one could sort it out. They either deny that there is a problem, or just blame the ISP/router/computer.

It was only when I managed to get the number of a local Telkom tech, did they finally admit that, yes, there was congestion, and that they were aware of the problem. They finally seem to have fixed it at the end of August, and my speedtest results are normal any time during the day when I test.
Only way to get it sorted is by talking with the local guys, and get as many other people as you can to also complain.

Requim

Sent a long mail to my telkom lady and she has forwarded my mail to their technical section...

"they will get in touch with you"

I followed up again regarding my fault this morning and the operator confirmed that Telkom does have network problems at the Bothasig exchange. She couldn't give an ETA of when it is going to be fixed though.

What I don't understand is that the exchange was upgraded end of last year, we had to wait about 3 months for that upgrade to finish before we could get an ADSL port.

network problems =/= oversold

morons!!

Had a Telkom techie at my place today - to check my line :/

I let him do his thing, but I told him that it was the exchage - and that it's happening all over ... not just in Bothasig.

My primary reason for having an ADSL line (gaming) has pretty much gone out the window at the moment.

Well last night was a pleasant surprise for me... Bellville North which has been full of crap lately ... was actually perfect last night. I dont know if enough people moaned / complained that they maybe did something about the exchange, or if people were just not active on their adsl lines last night... Either way... my traceroutes to my first ISP hop from home was literally 10 ms.

In the last 2 months, I have seen shocking results like 800 ms just to get to the my first router hop. Anyone in Bellville North experience the same results / performance I have described above ?
