List of congested exchanges?

In the same boat...

On the Bellville North Exchange.

Techie told me that its because of the stupid promo that they have been forced to overload the exchange..

Lets wait till 1 Feb and see what happens >.<

Any one on Bellville north experiencing serious throttling? Past 3days none of my downloads will go any higher than 45kbs on a 1mb line and some times my upload is faster than my download. I made a point to check if my isp has throttled me, they have not. On the plus side my ping seems to be stable at 75ms and for all of you experiencing congestion you know what a miracle this is on a Saturday.

Noticed the same thing late last night... my ping is showing 30 odd on my 384 connection but my speed wont go above 30 KB/s

How do you know or find out if your exchange is congested or if it is your ISP?

You buy some bandwidth from a different ISP. When you start having problems with your internet (high ping, slow speeds etc.), switch to the other ISP, and then run some speed and ping tests again to see if theres any difference. If theres no change, and the problem is still there, its most likely your exchange. If the problem dissapears, then you know that your ISP is the cause of the problem.

I did this by purchasing some bandwidth from two other ISP's and would switch accounts when my line quality degraded to see if there was any difference. The extremely high latency remained regardless of the ISP, and that way I knew that the issues must be with Telkom infrastructure.

WoW is Bellville North 4 still congested 3 months later? Really glad I pulled the stunt I did, Bellville North 5 is still going great for now.

Do a traceroute to a site... You will see clearly on your first hop what your latency is like... on a relatively quiet time period it should be around anything under 10 ms... thats pretty decent and normal.

No matter what ISP you use, if you see your first hop on your traceroute is in the high 500 / 600's + ... you know your exchange is congested. Bellville North has its days where data can take up to 700/ 800 ms just to get to your ISP's IPC. Add international latency to it,... and you sit with 1500 / 2000 ms response times.

Looks like Bellville North is up to its old tricks again

Bothasig seems to be behaving. Have had pretty good latency etc. getting 15ms ping to CT WA servers so not complaining...Touch wood

The situation on Bellville north is absolutely ridiculous and super frustrating.

PS, howzit Levi :)

Bothasig ping times improved - but on average i see 10% packet loss... - Touch wood

Bellville north exchange is still useless. Yay for telkom ****ing up once again. It 10 past 12 on a monday morning and you can't do **** on the net ;/

You can add Bryanston (011706xxxx) to the list of congested exchanges. Downloading at 2 to 5KB/s on a 4MB line

Bothasig Exchange

Bothasig exchange was fine but seems like its back to its old tricks again tonight. Getting local ping rates of 350ms+. Hope this is not going to become a problem again!!!!!

bothasig is back to sqaure 1 since monday
im thinking of taking a 15 pound hammer to that little hyundai gets thats permanently stationed there

4 months now this crap has been going on for

HAD a 7mb line for last 2 years in tableview - low latency, high speed. About 3 weeks ago my performance dropped to max 40kb - day, night, weekends. wanna pull my hair out!!! Contacted my ISP (Axxess), they checked and said my exchange is oversold - said there should be 10% spare capacity on the DSLAM, but its down to 2% - tech support guy there says they have regular complaints with Telkom overselling and their customers approaching them to complain. Contacted Telkom - got the standard "We don't guarantee speed" and "We can't oversell an exchange" and "your ISP doesn't know what they're talking about". Ordered a support callout and going to speak to the techie and see if I can be moved to a different DSLAM - not hoping for much though. This is absolute bull****.

Sonstraal Heights (Durbanville) - Mini/Road DSLAM highly congested. After 5/6 pm latency jumps anywhere between 300ms to 2500ms locally to Mweb and will return to normal after 12pm if I am lucky. Started about a month ago. Logged 2 faults with Telkom.

Techie pitched last week. Told me that there is 2 x Mini/Road DSLAM'S in my area and the one I am on is congestested.(This explains why my friend next door isn't experiencing any problems as he is on the other Mini/Road DSLAM). Techie confirmed that he cannot do anything and I have to wait for the Mini/Road DSLAM to be upgraded.

My call was closed. I logged another call today and will not stop untill they have sorted this out. Online gaming is over for me at this stage. I will be requesting a move and a refund for the past month.

Only a quick heads-up for those ready to pay more or very keen enough. After a good battle with Telkom because of a congested dslam I lost the battle and went the WISP option. Weekly now of pure web bliss - unshaped, uncontended net with 4Mb/s upload and also download speeds.my standalone monitorat high download speeds.

Bellville North has been quite well behaved but now seems to be back to normal tricks :(
