Funny thing is that was actually a threat (and wasnt it a pig?) but instead of being intimidated most just were annoyed and disgusted.... it was the masculine display of a child.
 
Actually not rare. Many people have a degree of colour blindness. Much is not total, but trather a case of discerning colours differently. You will probably fail the Ishihara tests. If it ever affects you in a job application etc - remember that term. Been there, dunnit. Nearly lost a bursary when I was young. Luckily I insisted I could see and differentiate colours. A few tests later all was sorted - I was not going to inadvertantly blow up the world by going into engineering ;)
Was the SADF aware of and did they capitalise on your colour blindness in the analysis of aerial photographs?
 
No. Turned out I was not colour blind. I just see colour differently. ;)
How so? There's a theory our brains are colour neutral and then pick different colours to represent different wavelengths so that what one sees as blue may look green to another. But we all still normally recognise the same colours and it's not something that has an impact or can be detected with a test.

Protanomaly versus protanopia or deutranomaly versus deutranopia.

Women can also be tetrachromats or pentachromats.
 
Well during the cold war a lot of the analyzers of spyplane/satellite photo's were woman..... woman can also generally distinguish between more shades of colour than men..... so there's that....
 
Women have more colour rods than men to detect colour. However men have more cones than women to detect neutral light. That's why in a lot of cultures men will go in or out first to detect danger.

Depending on how tired my eyes are: I might just-just see 74 by concentrating, but mostly I'd say it's 21.

42 - four is clear, two okay from far, near i goes awol.

At an individual colour dot level I can describe and differentiate each colour, colour shades etc. Screwy eyes ... o_O

Red-green colour vision genes sit on the X chromosome. Women get 2 copies, one from mother, one from father, men only get 1 copy from their mother. Hence typically women are carriers of colourblindness because in women each cell will randomly express one of the two X chromosomes and so they have to have the colourblindness gene from both parents to suffer from colourblindness like men do.

But conversely, if a woman has a father with deuteranomaly and a mother with protanomaly, then she'll have 5 different kinds of colour receptors in her eyes, with 5 different peak colour sensitivities, which technically would make her a pentachromat like a butterfly. Women who are carriers of one kind of colourblindness will also technically be tetrachromats for this reason.

I fondly remember orange and green monochrome crt's..... they had a oddly comforting glow.

You sure you have that correct? No 19 is supposed to show a 2 if you have red-green deficiency, not if you don't.
