LIVE | Apartheid flag judgment

Jup, there is no place left in SA for white people and their culture. Sucks that we can not all just pack up and leave.
Die Stem and the old South African flag has **** all to do with my culture.
I don't care if they ban both.

Who is stopping you from packing up and leaving?

This is the apartheid flag:

The problem I see is that he views the displaying the flag as only having one interpretation, people who display it must be" choosing oppression over liberation, they must be about "hatred".

The judge is making an assumption about what people are trying to express by displaying the flag without any proof that it is indeed the case. I can't stand the old flag but as something historic and something that precedes Apartheid a ban seems very wrong.

I don't think the flag is the issue, it is sometimes the mentality that it encompasses. Hanging the sa flag and old sa flag side by side in a pub is chilled, a lot of people grew up sheltered from the violence and opression that was happening and only remember the old days of growing up. It doesn't mean they deny the wrongs or hardships.

On the other end, there is a crowd that is extremely anti-new SA and still act like the old flag is their true flag. In either case, I don't think the flag should be banned but I can at least understand where the perception of hate speech comes from, especially since the old flag wasn't intended to be inclusive

a flag has the ability to inflict harm, learning a new thing everyday

Flag very bad..........babies being born on the floor in a clinic........well that's ok............this place is crazy!

The irony is that people will defend a piece of cloth before they defend a mother that lost a child to incompetence

Come now. The money spent on getting a piece of cloth banned couldn't possibly have been spent on anything more important.
Well if no one flew the flag, there'd be no reason to have to spend money on banning it. People can come up with as many excuses as they want but that flag resembles something very different to non white folk.

Try fly a Nazi flag in Germany. It's not so the physical harm it inflicts but what it resembles and the emotional harm it may cause those who were subject to that period.

flags, statues, road names.. what else/next. monuments, languages, skin colours?

xenophobia is already rife and seemingly accepted, so the neighbour problem is sorted.

to hate something so much that you eventually turn into that very thing.

talking about nazis, the white people supporting all this nonsense with the idea they are being liberal and progressive kind of reminds me of the sonderkommando. aiding their own destruction.

meh

What does the old SA flag have to do with being white? There is a generation that grew up without this flag and could care less what would happen to it.

A president lacking knowledge about a disease and this extending to his govt's handling of the issue is not the same as Apartheid man.
By about 330,000 people who died slowly?

Would you prefer what you have now, or would you prefer the cops do to you what the Apartheid cops did to many people?

Don't get me wrong, South Africa is all kinds of screwed up at the moment, but most of that is due to incompetence, corruption and yes, still some knock-on effects from Apartheid which were not remedied by our current govt.
