Went to an office with about 300 people + pcs with a gen for only the lights and pc and not the ac system, you must know what a mistake that was, that building heats up so much that people have to go out side.

Its not always load shedding.
They run the power stations above the recommended level - and then, the thing breaks.
So, it takes a few hours to fix again.
Or, it simply runs out of fuel, and the delivery takes a while - especially with traffic backed up due to the power failure....
You'd think that Eskom would be more prepared for this...

What would be the point of rioting? It's not like Eskom's going to be working any faster, as they're probably already working at max speed. They're losing money too, remember?
And getting a powerstation up and running doesn't take a day or two, it takes months, if not years. All we can do for the time being is try and limit our energy usage and reliance on Eskom for our supply. Anyone know how much a big solar panel that could charge a battery or something to run a couple of sockets from, would cost?

Hmm, what is their ceo's salary and how much bonuses did their top management get recently? Those are interesting questions when considering eskom's plight.
I have no sympathy for them, this is their doing as much as the governments.
Things only make sense once you accept that we're being fed a whole load of porky-pies. If you take what Eskom is telling you as the truth, then nothing makes sense. i.e. They are hiding something much worse than lack of planning and incompetence. What could it be?

The point of the protest (not a "riot" - I am not a savage) would be to ensure that the CEO and whoever in guavamint shares the blame, get turfed out on the street, sans "package".

mocha pot, camping gas, and if you need to grind beans, your UPS should have enough juice to power your grinder for a minute
We have all the individual machines ona little black box ups, one per machine. Gives about 15 mins usage.
Then out comes the genie, which provides just enough to have keep the pcs and the switchboard, the network and the net up and running.
Only good for a small office though.

The company I work for installed a generator near the beginning of last year to power EVERYTHING in the building. It cost about R100 k. But the company has grown a lot since. Now when there's load shedding the generator does not have enough power. So we have to do internal load shedding: no aircons, no kettles, lights, microwaves, even the Nuova Simonelli espresso machine!

Just had a few hours of loadshatting too.
The more I'm thinking about the coming winter, the more I appreciate the gas powered gear thats hidden somewhere in the garage. I just hope that the gas suppliers don't pull the same shyte they did last year.

I third that.
If Eskom can't get their act together it is not our fault, but we are the ones who suffer because of it.
Everyone bitches about it, but no one ever makes an effort to hold those accountable, accountable.
Too many people are allowing this to happen with the excuse TIA and the slippery slope will continue till you'll only get power for two hours a day and be greatful for it..
Why should YOU have to go out and buy jennys? Why should YOU have to grin and bear it? Why should YOUR business lose money?
It is THEIR incompetence that has lead to this state of affairs, THEY should be the ones to be inconvenienced. By removing them and replacing them with someone who actually knows and cares about what they are doing.

You think there will be enough gas supply? I for one have my doubts.
I am scared of gas, but even I am leaning towards gas for emergency cooking now.

We just lost a domain controller yesterday fank yu vewy much oh and the UPS was fried sideways...not sure what caused that but thats why we had said server on mains instead of on UPS. It even had one of them red plug thingies but it seems more of a software problem because of the abnormal shutdown. Windows server just will not start up.

It's not that I couldn't make coffee.
It's not that my computers were down and couldn't work.
It's having to reset all the bloody mains powered clocks every couple of days! But I guess that this fixes to wrong time also caused by our disempowered supplier.
