Load Shedding - the all in one thread

I'm looking forward to the next loadshed, coz I just bought and set up my new little backup power system for my 2 lappies, ADSL router and one desk lamp. i.e. I can game in my study for up to 8 hours on backup power, wewt.
 
I am in the unfortunate position where once I have power again after a load-shedding episode, the tower which i connect to is affected :(

This seems to be the only explanation... it is inaccessible for 2 hours after my power comes on again.

do these towers have backup power? if not, then I see no need for IBurst anymore
 
I have an Issue with the thread title.

Load Shedding is an unacceptable euphemism for planned power failures caused by managerial incompetence.

Let's call it for what it is.

They are power failures. "Failure" being the operative term

Monday our lights went off.. we lost 5 hours production, last night the lights were off from 6.30 till before 9, today they were off again, we lost 3 hours production, Gee Eskom, what a way to boost production. I hope Eskoms bosses all enjoyed their performance bonuses, maybe they invested in generators?
It seems as if the new sound of suburban South Africa will be the generator.

problem is, my garage is electric, and its not part of my flat.(cant get into it, without power), so whenever the power is off im home alone

um... Does anybody know how long the load shedding will last, what are they doing throughout phase 1,2 and 3??

So many people and businesses are being negatively affected by all this... the whole country is going to be bankrupt by the end of the year!? (or am i wrong?)

What are we South Africans going to do?
 
due too all the load shedding in sandton, one of our company generators blew :lol:

and if check out my window now (still at work :( )half of sandton is in the dark again

Not for us. Today was the last straw. Power was off from 12:00->14:00 and then again from 18:00->20:45. We have a business to run with customers in the states and while this "power shedding" is going on, we are losing customers because we can't respond to queries etc. Hell, I even sent my daughter to bed tonight with a sandwidth for supper. No more, I am contacting a migration company tomorrow.
 
Well how long does it take to build a power station? And have we started building yet?

You are a Biiig Freaking optimist. Make that 10-15 Years. In 5 years that would only be upgrading existing and maybe restart closed power stations. It take 5 years to plan and then up to 10 years to build and commission a big power station. Thus do the calcs. Then that would only cater for the current backlog and not for future needs. Everyday we have thousands of more users as they take up this new found luxury. So what is the bets!
