It's amazing how many people I've seen get completely confused when they stop at a traffic light that is out. Almost saw an accident yesterday with a guy that just drove straight through at high speed, luckily the other guy who's turn it was was paying attention.
I don't think it is confusion. Its the piss poor attitude of the average road user. They just don't care and it gets worse and worse.
Yesterday on the way home;
1. Heavy traffic out of the CBD. As is increasingly common, people now drive down the wrong side of the road before forcing their way back in to the correct lane when traffic comes down the other side. Guy in a Golf rockets down the road in to oncoming traffic and just forces his way in front of me. I had to slam on brakes and just about hit the pavement to avoid him. No hazards, no apologies, just pure unfiltered couldn't give a ****.
2. Closer to home there was load shedding. At an intersection the lights start flashing which indicates power must be returning. Cars carry on treating it as a fourway stop. Then the lights stay red, which to me immediately indicates that they are now working. I check the other lights and see they are green, confirming that everything is back to normal. I'm 3 cars back in the queue and I am already assessing the situation. The two cars in front of me just bomb through the red light, one after the other, nearly causing an accident. Neither bothered to check the lights. The first car just assumed he had right of way and the second car, as is common in these situations, just thought they'd force their way across as well because **** other road users.
This is why I am a defensive driver. The only driver I trust on the road is me. The rest should be riding bicycles with training wheels.
