Hi,

I have just bought from my ISP 20gb Local bandwidth + my International 3gb Bandwidth. I have tried playing on servers with my Local bandwidth >only< but get disconnected every 5 minutes stating "could not connect to the steam master server and/or EA". I understand that it cannot connect to the Master server (international) that requires International bandwidth. I was wondering if there is any way(s) in which i can use my local 20gb and play on Servers without getting disconnected every 5 minutes. I am aware pf RoutSentry but my ISP (cybersmart) offer the Local + Int on your one ADSL account meaning i do NOT have 2 accounts (one being International and another being Local) Will this work with Routesentry. PLEASE help me, i was so excited to get the LOCAL after realizing i get Disconnected every 2 min. Please guys.

Your help will me much appreciated.

Remember buddy, local only accounts 'sorta' suck for gaming because many games send info to master servers for ranks etc.

BF2 is like this, so is ET: Quake Wars, so is COD4 etc etc etc

This is where you'd use RouteSentry with 2 accounts, one INT and the other Local so that when needed, RouteSentry will send INT traffic (minimal traffic) down the INT account and all local traffic downt he Local account.

Some games, like counterstrike doesn't have any sort of rank system and thus, only uses local traffic but other games, newer games like the ones I mentioned need INT traffic so you can rank up etc.

Hope this sorts you out.

Like i said above. I do NOT have 2 accounts being LOCAL and INT.

1 ADSL account: LOCAL + INT. With an option on my ISP's website to SWITCH between the two on my single ADSL account.

EDIT: Counter-Strike:Source and/or ANY steam based games requires a connection to the Master server every 2/3minutes which is what is disconnecting me "unable to connect to master Server"

Maybe you've used the INT already.

On those accounts, the first 3GB or whatever is INT, after that, its all local.
So if you've used the 1st 3GB on local, you've actually used up you INT part of the account and all you have left is LOCAL ONLY.

*PS: I'm not 100% sure on what i've just said, but i'm sorta 90% sure, so if anyone thinks i'm wrong, please correct me*

I can SWITCh between the two. ie. "5pm I switch to local, 6pm i switch to INT. 7pm I switch to local" etc etc.

Jimbo, phone your ISP and ask them to list the games that they support on the LOCAL only account.

I can tell you right now that AXXESS's local only SAIX offering allows you to play COD4. They somehow allow this local only account to send the CD-KEY AUTHENTICATION request to the master server.

I have not tried BF2 on that account yet.

But, my point is, phone your ISP and ask them. However, I don't know how you're going to get through the helpdesk front-face to be able to talk to a techie. Try raising a request with the question: "What games are currently supported on the LOCAL only account, and is Steam's connection to the master server supported?"

Then, next time, ask the ISP this question before purchasing the bandwidth.

Otherwise ... time to setup RouteSentry or a dual routed IP-Cop machine.

Wow, a new customer on the new Cybersmart accounts already!
Jimbo1, I have no advice for you. The change from Local<->International is being done on their side. All I can say is that you would have to use your international account to be able to play on the local servers (unless I am missing something here). Maybe ask Cybersmart for a refund? Because you are not able to Play games locally, like you wanted to do with their "Local" account.

ah!

Welcome to the MyADSL Forums! :D

I did not ask this to be an Introduction Thread.

Please help me.

If you don't get ninja'ed, it's like walking around the Forum in the nude. We don't want that now, do we? :p

I already told you/helped you. There is not much you can do. Unless you are willing to pay for a proxy service.

Um, what do you want us to help you with?

- Installing Routesentry may help, depends on the game, it does not help with COD4, and I don't know about STEAM games unfortunately.
- I don't know which ISP you are using, and changing / calling your ISP's is something you should do.

Um ... I don't know how to help you further.

It's rather clear he uses Cybersmart. Routesentry won't work here. Not on Cybersmart.

Aaah, the SWITCH reference .. missed that, and RouteSentry won't work cos he cannot logon with local and international accounts at the same time.

Blah.

Jimbo1, phone Cybersmart and ask them what the options are.

From what I understand reading about the new Cybersmart accounts, you won't be able to get this working with their current system.

The best you could do is buy yourself 1 gig on another ISP or arrange another 1GB international account with Cybersmart and use RouteSentry to get the international through while playing on your local. A bit of a waste though. :(

That's the shortcoming of cybersmart's way. The deal is pretty sweet - R75 for 20 gigs of local. Problem is the way they switch :(

Your best bet might be getting a web-africa account for the little bandwidth that HAS to go int, and sticking to routesentry.

Ok, ive spoken to my ISP. They are creating me a seperate account which refers to LOCAL only (ie. [email protected]) and then my INT one ([email protected]).

If i put these two accounts in RouteSentry will this work?

Also if there are any Technicians here willing to make some money, Drop me a PM. We can talk over MSN or you can come and fix it manually here if i don't get it to work.

RouteSentry would be able to work like a charm now with those 2 separate accounts if you have a proper modem. Do you have the one that they give you for free?

By the way, you don't have to be a 'Technician' to be able to set up RouteSentry. :p

There's an echo in here :D ...
That is egzakkery what RouteSentry is designed for.
However, you need to place your router into Bridged mode, unless it's a really uber kewl new fangled router that can do self-dial pppoe mode and bridged mode at the same time.

So, now you get to go to the RouteSentry thread and see how far you get.
I think this thread will give you most of what you need: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=69518
