Lottostar

I'm guessing that will be when you withdraw funds again. I obviously didn't make it anywhere near that point.

I doubt this is legit.

It is illegal to play overseas lotteries that are not registered in this country.

They're also not licensed by the MGB according to the MGB's list of 31 December 201407

**EDIT**

I retract the above statement, they are.. but obviously the people who generate the list have no idea what alphabetical order is about...

I still doubt this is legit in terms of the overseas lottos, since LottoStars are registered as a bookmaker, not a lottery.

At what point do you have to FICA? When you cash out only?

For the legit stuff that they do, yeah.. it will be at that point.

You should be providing FICA documents up front, but they can get away with it for a little while.

I read somewhere on the site that you don't actually play in the overseas lottos, you bet on their outcomes? So maybe that is how they get around it. But that would make sense in terms of the size of the potential jackpots...

False advertising then, Kino I can understand in this sense, but Spanish Daily, SuperEnaLotto and Euromillions? To participate in a lotto you need to allocate to the pot which is distributed. I see that Lottostar will only reward up to R160 million, which is much less than what Spanish Daily, SuperEnaLotto and Euromillions can achieve.

When you bet on the outcomes or in other terms sweepstakes you are only betting on the numbers and not in the lotto.

Yea, I think that's how they do it: you bet on the outcome, not with the other people in the actual prize pool. Then I don't see how they will find R160mill if you manage to bet on the correct winning numbers in one of the big draws, when all the prize pool is coming from the few people in SA playing on the site...

What they will PROBABLY be doing is using your money on the bet, to buy a ticket through a third party. If it wins, you get R160m they get the rest through some overseas subsidiary.

I'm concerned about how legal this is. I don't want to play, then win and have everything confiscated.
That would suck

That makes sense. Explains why there is the massive gap in the value of the payouts. Crazy amount of profit they'd make in that case...

From their terms and conditions:
It may be illegal for residents of some countries to bet with LottoStar t/a Lottostar and access to the website does not imply it is legal to bet online from any country.

These guys are advertising that if you register and like them on facebook and twitter, like and share a few posts, the will give you points that you can convert into credits to play. They are using a betting system which makes their business completely legal. I'm busy getting points to convert to credits to play.

It would be awesome to win R160 mil

I played now.. won R12 with the kino... and played the spanish daily which is every 8 hours... this is very strange actually.

I have a suspicion that anyone who playes kino for the first time will win something under R20.

an i believe tha this "winnings" will be insentive for you to play more... The spanich daily is in 6 hours. I betted R66 lets see waht hppens.

I've played R170 and I'm yet to win something. Mainly the Super Ena and Spanish Daily.

Yeah I think this site is a scam... with your first play, you might get a winning, of about R10 -R15... this is given to you as a confidence boost to keep you playing there after you will probably win something again. I suspect after deposoting enough money after a ceratin time you would win a bit of cash... So if you deposit R250+ you might win R50 - R100, but you will never win more then you have deposited into this sites account...

Are sites like this ever audited by the gambling board or similar, if things are a bit rigged does it only come out when some clever oke notices the scam?
