Hey all.

I hope this is in the right place.
I'm desperately looking for a modem that takes a sim card and comes with a backup battery. I know the Huawei b315 has one that works really well but it's discontinued and I'm really struggling to find one.

Maybe if you have any alternate suggestions for something i can do to power one that doesn't come with one for roughly 2 hours when there's no power.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Powering

1. fibre and router from a
UPS Multi-Output 5V & 12V Battery Power Bank for WiFi Routers

2. Access point from a
PSS DC B300C mini ups

So far keeps entire family online. But hopefully soon a memory of the past. Installing a inverter.

I have a 2000watt ups, powers my CPE and router for the 2:30hours of loadshedding. I am actually thinking of doing a frankenstein and adding a 105amp battery so i can atleast watch tv

I am not aware of any router with built in battery backup, which leaves you with the option of using any LTE router with the battery option of your choice. Geewiz, Takealot and Uniterm all have a number of 12V battery / ups solutions

Well the OP, says LTE, router so any of the Mi-Fi routers should do what he wants. LTE-A router, or Fixed LTE-A, getting a UPS, is the best way to go.

alarm battery, 12 volt charger, voltage regulator, works well. That is, if your service provider batteries last.

How about a cheap 4G MIFI router and a powerbank. That combo works great.

Infact now that I think about it - just a MIFI device will suffice. I have some Huawei E-series MIFI and works with Rain network. Can stay connected for about 5hrs from a full charge. With a powerbank added that can translate to a whole day + in the bundus with WIFI.

I bought several of the Huawei HW-Li2.6Ah-C 7.4V 2600mAh battery packs last year which were included with some of the Telkom B315 routers and I usually get around 2 hours of use from each fully charged pack. Hopefully the loadshedding is over for the meantime but if anybody is looking for something cheap in case the situation deteriorates again, here are a few products that I have seen that I would probably have purchased instead.

These cases from Aliexpress appear to be very well designed with good PCB layouts and heatsinking. They all require additional 18650 lithium batteries from faulty power banks, end of life laptop batteries etc. Most people already have several discarded laptop batteries or power banks that could be repurposed for loadshedding purposes. Alternatively many Chinese cell phone or lighting shops sell several different grades of 18650 which start at R30 per cell. The Huawei HW-Li2 packs that I am using only have two cells so these banks have significantly more capacity and multiple voltage outputs etc.

8-24V, 5V 2A 4X18650

12V 3-5A, 5V 2A 6X18650

5V 3A 9V 2A 12V 1.5A 6X18650 with Quick Charge

12V 3A, 5V 3A 9V 2A 12V 1.5A 3X18650

12V 3A, 5V 3A 9V 2A 12V 1.5A 3X18650 with Quick Charge

12V 8-10A 5V 2A High power 10A 6X18650

This is a real beast which is meant for powering a laptop ...

If anybody is interested in any of these power banks and has never made a purchase on Aliexpress I can send you a referral code for a $4 off $5 spend coupon - I think you will also receive a $7 off $50 coupon - $30 dollars in coupons in total.

Most of the UPSs, power banks that are being sold online by Takealot, Geewiz etc. are manufactured in China and are also available on Alibaba/Aliexpress.
